Always Something There To Remind Me
Sandie Shaw Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

walk along those city streets you used to walk along with me
And every step I take recalls how much in love we used to be
Oh how can I forget you
When there is always something there to remind me?

Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you
And I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me

Whoa-ooo-ohhh-oh
If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just go back to the places where we used to go
And I'll be there

How can I forget you
When there is always something there to remind me?
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you

And I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
Whoa-ooo-ohhh-oh
Whoa-oh-ooo-ohhh

f you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just come back to the places where we used to go
And I'll be there
How can I forget you

When there is always something there to remind me?
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you
And I will never be free

When there is
When there is
When, there, is

Always something there to remind me

Always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sandie Shaw's song "Always Something There To Remind Me" explore the lingering nostalgia and heartache that one can feel after a romantic relationship has ended. The singer reminisces about walking along the same city streets that they used to walk along with their former lover, but now every step only serves to remind them of the love they once shared. They lament that they will never be truly free from the memory of their ex-partner, as there is always something there to trigger a reminder.

The chorus repeats the title of the song, emphasizing the constant presence of memories and reminders of the past relationship. The singer acknowledges that they were born to love their former partner, and that they will always be a part of them, no matter how much time has elapsed.

The verses are addressed to the listener, encouraging them to revisit the places they used to go with their past love and suggesting that the singer will be there waiting for them. The tone is wistful and melancholy, acknowledging that the end of a relationship doesn't necessarily mean the end of one's feelings.

Overall, the lyrics to "Always Something There To Remind Me" capture the bittersweet nature of remembering past relationships, and the difficulty of fully moving on. Despite the sadness expressed in the lyrics, the song is ultimately hopeful in its suggestion that the listener can find solace in revisiting old haunts and remembering the good times.

@@mottledbrain I heard the naked eyes version and I thought I had heard this before. Your heart remembers songs so I looked it up. I like Sandie's, version, it's pure. The 1983 naked eyes cover version is too full of unnecessary sounds taking away from his voice. His voice is the smoothest.
