In july
When the summer was high
An' we've been alright
You know what money can't buy
One kiss on a flatbed truck
A hot rain
You said
Words don't mean nothing
But you will be mine
It goes around my heart
Hey hey what a criminal man
Life will go in circles
All around my heart
Hey hey
It's such a dangerous game
I'm afraid
You'd lose your trust in love
Good friend
In the darkest night
You feel blind
But my love is cateyed
Just follow its light
You've got to follow the light
Some day you'll be face to face
And you'll see
Human nature can't waste
My love
Words don't mean nothing
As long as you're mine
It goes around my heart
Hey hey what a criminal man
Life will go in circles
All around my heart
Hey hey
It's such a dangerous game
I'm afraid
You'd lose your trust in love
The lyrics to Sandra's song "Around My Heart" describe a past summer romance that flourished quickly and passionately but ended in uncertainty. The song takes us back to a nostalgic summer in July in 1985. The lyrics talk about how they’ve been fine and how "money can't buy" their happiness - implying that their happiness came from something other than material possessions. The romantic scene of "One kiss on a flatbed truck / A hot rain / Has completed our luck” seems like something out of a movie. The singer is ecstatic about this encounter and her emotions peak when her love interest tells her that she will be his while insisting that words don't mean anything. She feels that their love is meant to be, and it goes around in her heart.
The chorus brings out the key theme of the song - a cycle of love, with the singer feeling that their relationship circulates like time, as it goes around her heart. She describes the love affairs as a “dangerous game” and is afraid that he might lose his faith in love. She sees the possibility of future hurt, but she chooses to follow the light of love instead. The final lines of the song speak about the power of love to transcend time, that one day whether in the darkest night or sunny happiness, their love will endure.

This song has a kind of confusing feeling I do love to experience. Though punchy, strong, irreverent, it has a sweet melancholy disguised into its samplers and synths, into the refrain. The cuteness on the Sandra's voice, makes this be one of the most beautiful 80's songs I've ever heard in life, so far. I can't quit revisite it time to time, to swing my body and feel something yearning, longing...
@mccuskeraaron
Hi Vladimir - i think if you listen closely you’ll find that there is nothing confusing about it. Listen harder and you will realise that they are flukes.
@schmutz43
No need to be confused about this one, you will feel more relaxed when you admit to yourself that this is a total fluke, this song was probably cooked up in about 10 minutes
@Valdaemonium
@@mccuskeraaron with "confusing" I meant "I can feel both happiness and melancholy at the same time, but I don't want to make this certainty so evident"*. That adjective was purposely used, actually, to cause an euphemism feeling...
