Formed in 1990, Sandy & Junior began by singing children's songs and sertanejo-influenced tracks (their first single, "Maria Chiquinha", is a classic sertanejo song). Once they reached adolescence, they changed their style to pop-influenced songs, mainly ballads and upbeat songs. The style-change was around the mid 1990s. Their albums Era Uma Vez... Ao Vivo (1998), As Quatro Estações (1999), Quatro Estações: O Show (2000) and Sandy & Junior (2001) sold more than a million units and were certified multi-platinum or diamond in Brazil.
They had a self-titled weekly television series between 1999 and 2003 on Rede Globo and released the movie Acquaria in 2003; Sandy also starred the soap opera Estrela Guia (Globo) in 2001. Earlier, they had appeared in Renato Aragão movie O Noviço Rebelde, in 1997. Both have experienced solo work: Junior was the drummer of alternative rock band Nove Mil Anjos (which also features former Charlie Brown Jr. member Champignon on bass guitar), and part of an EDM duo called Manimal. Sandy, on the other hand, has a solid solo carreer.
In 2002, they were the first national artists to do a paid concert at Maracanã stadium in Rio.
The duo announced on 17 April 2007 that an MTV Unplugged album to be recorded in May 2007 would be their final work together, through a video posted on their website addressed to their fans and in a press conference, stating also that their career as a duo would be over at the end of 2007.
Their 17 years of career has granted them partnerships with several national and international artists, such as Xuxa, Roberto Carlos, Milton Nascimento, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Andrea Bocelli and Enrique Iglesias, and more than 20 million albums sold around the globe, making them the ninth best selling Brazilian artists of all time.
In March 2019, after a 12-year hiatus, the duo announced a new tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first performance together, Nossa História Tour. Starting in July 2019, the siblings commemorated their successful career with their greatest hits in a tour through the largest cities in Brazil.

Mais do que sou
E sei do que sei
Só não sei viver
Sem querer ser
Mais do que sou
O fato é o ato da procura
O que era certo eu descobri
Nem sempre era o melhor
Abri os olhos
Não consigo mais fechar
Assisto em silêncio
Até o que eu não quero enxergar
Não sei afastar
A dor de saber
Que o saber não há
Só não sei dizer
Se esse meu ver
Se pode explicar
Enquanto eu penso, tanto entendo
Que é mais fácil não pensar
O que era certo, eu aprendi
A sempre questionar
Abri os olhos
Não consigo mais fechar
Assisto em silêncio
Até o que eu não quero enxergar
Abri os olhos
Não consigo mais fechar
Assisto em silêncio
Até o que eu não quero enxergar
Sei mais do que eu quis
Mais do que sou
E sei do que sei
Abri os olhos
Não consigo mais fechar
Assisto em silêncio
Até o que eu não quero enxergar
Abri os olhos
Não consigo mais fechar
Assisto em silêncio
Até o que eu não quero enxergar
The lyrics of Sandy e Junior's song Abri Os Olhos speak to the universal human experience of self-discovery and questioning one's own beliefs and perceptions. The opening lines "Sei mais do que eu quis/Mais do que sou" (I know more than I wanted/More than I am) set the tone for the song's themes of introspection and self-awareness. The songwriter acknowledges that they have gained knowledge about themselves and the world around them, but that this knowledge has not made it any easier for them to navigate their existence.
The song speaks to the idea that seeking answers and solutions to life's problems is a constant process, and that there is no definite or correct path to follow. The line "E a cura não resiste só" (And the cure doesn't always resist) suggests that often the answers we seek may not be the ones we want. The songwriter goes on to say "O que era certo eu descobri/Nem sempre era o melhor" (What was right I discovered/Wasn't always the best), highlighting the idea that the truth can be complex and multi-faceted.
The chorus of the song, "Abri os olhos/Não consigo mais fechar" (I opened my eyes/I can't close them anymore) reinforces the theme of self-discovery and the idea that once we become aware of certain truths, we cannot un-see them. The song concludes with the lines "Sei mais do que eu quis/Mais do que sou/E sei do que sei" (I know more than I wanted/More than I am/And I know what I know), suggesting that despite the challenges of self-discovery, the songwriter has come to a place of acceptance and understanding.

Deus, o Senhor estava viu quanta dor eu aguentei
Quantas vezes minha voz sufoquei
Machucada e não queria ferir
Não sabia como tinha chegado ali
Deus, o Senhor viu, sentiu quando eu soltei a sua mão
Estava largada, literalmente no chão
A vontade era só gritar até a dor passar
Que amor é esse?
Que olhos são esses?
que me encontram em qualquer lugar?
Que compaixão é essa?
Da qual não posso escapar?
Nos teus braços é meu lugar.
O Senhor estava lá
Sentindo a minha dor
Trabalhando no meu interior
Trabalhou e moveu todo o lugar
Me fez sentir o que sentiu
E doeu perceber que maior que tudo
O que eu vivi, foi te entristecer.
