Formed in 1990, Sandy & Junior began by singing children's songs and sertanejo-influenced tracks (their first single, "Maria Chiquinha", is a classic sertanejo song). Once they reached adolescence, they changed their style to pop-influenced songs, mainly ballads and upbeat songs. The style-change was around the mid 1990s. Their albums Era Uma Vez... Ao Vivo (1998), As Quatro Estações (1999), Quatro Estações: O Show (2000) and Sandy & Junior (2001) sold more than a million units and were certified multi-platinum or diamond in Brazil.
They had a self-titled weekly television series between 1999 and 2003 on Rede Globo and released the movie Acquaria in 2003; Sandy also starred the soap opera Estrela Guia (Globo) in 2001. Earlier, they had appeared in Renato Aragão movie O Noviço Rebelde, in 1997. Both have experienced solo work: Junior was the drummer of alternative rock band Nove Mil Anjos (which also features former Charlie Brown Jr. member Champignon on bass guitar), and part of an EDM duo called Manimal. Sandy, on the other hand, has a solid solo carreer.
In 2002, they were the first national artists to do a paid concert at Maracanã stadium in Rio.
The duo announced on 17 April 2007 that an MTV Unplugged album to be recorded in May 2007 would be their final work together, through a video posted on their website addressed to their fans and in a press conference, stating also that their career as a duo would be over at the end of 2007.
Their 17 years of career has granted them partnerships with several national and international artists, such as Xuxa, Roberto Carlos, Milton Nascimento, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Andrea Bocelli and Enrique Iglesias, and more than 20 million albums sold around the globe, making them the ninth best selling Brazilian artists of all time.
In March 2019, after a 12-year hiatus, the duo announced a new tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first performance together, Nossa História Tour. Starting in July 2019, the siblings commemorated their successful career with their greatest hits in a tour through the largest cities in Brazil.

Sorrindo lhe estendeu a mão
Me dá licença, meu senhor
Desculpe, eu tô de pé no chão
A minha roupa tá rasgada
E a vida me ensina
Moço, ouvi dizer
Que sou a esperança
Mas não sei do quê
Se ninguém me vê como criança
Moço, eu vivo aqui
Sem carinho e proteção
Vá pro seu trabalho
Só quero um trocado
Pra comprar um pão
Meus pais não sei por onde andam
A minha casa é essa esquina
Meus irmãos são as estrelas
E a vida me ensina
Moço, ouvi dizer
Que sou a esperança
Mas não sei do quê
Se ninguém me vê como criança
Moço, eu vivo aqui
Sem carinho e proteção
Vá pro seu trabalho
Só quero um trocado
Pra comprar um pão
Moço, ouvi dizer
Que sou a esperança
Mas não sei do quê
Se ninguém me vê como criança
Moço, eu vivo aqui
Sem carinho e proteção
Vá pro seu trabalho
Só quero um trocado
Pra comprar um pão
Vá pro seu trabalho
Só quero um trocado
Pra comprar um pão
The song "Criança Esperança" by Sandy e Junior is a powerful ballad that speaks to the struggles of impoverished children in Brazil. The song tells the story of a young boy who stops a man on the street for help. The boy is dirty and his clothes are torn, and he explains that he has nowhere to go and needs money for food. He longs for a life like the man's son, with a mother to wake him up and a father to take him to school. But the boy is not seen as a child - he is just a burden to society. Despite this, he is referred to as a symbol of hope, even though he doesn't understand what he represents.
The lyrics are deeply emotional and paint a vivid picture of the child's reality. The boy is alone, abandoned, and in desperate need of help. The man he speaks to represents the rest of society - people who are aware of the problem but do not see the child as an individual. By calling the child a symbol of hope, the song highlights the fact that many people talk about helping impoverished children, but few take meaningful action to make a difference in their lives. The boy's simple request for money to buy bread is a stark reminder of how basic needs are not being met for millions of children around the world.
Overall, "Criança Esperança" is a poignant reminder of the struggles of impoverished children and the need for action to improve their lives. It confronts the viewer with the harsh reality of many children's lives.

Como alguém tem coragem de dizer que ela não canta nada, afinada, e alcança notas maravilhosas desde pequena. Arrasa e sempre arrasou.
