Formed in 1990, Sandy & Junior began by singing children's songs and sertanejo-influenced tracks (their first single, "Maria Chiquinha", is a classic sertanejo song). Once they reached adolescence, they changed their style to pop-influenced songs, mainly ballads and upbeat songs. The style-change was around the mid 1990s. Their albums Era Uma Vez... Ao Vivo (1998), As Quatro Estações (1999), Quatro Estações: O Show (2000) and Sandy & Junior (2001) sold more than a million units and were certified multi-platinum or diamond in Brazil.
They had a self-titled weekly television series between 1999 and 2003 on Rede Globo and released the movie Acquaria in 2003; Sandy also starred the soap opera Estrela Guia (Globo) in 2001. Earlier, they had appeared in Renato Aragão movie O Noviço Rebelde, in 1997. Both have experienced solo work: Junior was the drummer of alternative rock band Nove Mil Anjos (which also features former Charlie Brown Jr. member Champignon on bass guitar), and part of an EDM duo called Manimal. Sandy, on the other hand, has a solid solo carreer.
In 2002, they were the first national artists to do a paid concert at Maracanã stadium in Rio.
The duo announced on 17 April 2007 that an MTV Unplugged album to be recorded in May 2007 would be their final work together, through a video posted on their website addressed to their fans and in a press conference, stating also that their career as a duo would be over at the end of 2007.
Their 17 years of career has granted them partnerships with several national and international artists, such as Xuxa, Roberto Carlos, Milton Nascimento, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Andrea Bocelli and Enrique Iglesias, and more than 20 million albums sold around the globe, making them the ninth best selling Brazilian artists of all time.
In March 2019, after a 12-year hiatus, the duo announced a new tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first performance together, Nossa História Tour. Starting in July 2019, the siblings commemorated their successful career with their greatest hits in a tour through the largest cities in Brazil.
Nas Mãos da Sorte

Largou a escola pra vender cocaina
E o outro que queria ser piloto de avião
Viaja com a pistola assaltando a condução
A menina que pensava em se tornar professora
Continua analfabeta e virou sequestradora
A polícia matou um ladrão de bicicleta
Aquele desnutrido que queria ser atleta
Tudo Gira, o tempo passa e não
Ninguém tenta achar a solução
Abrir os olhos ajuda a enxergar
Lutar, crescer, fazer e poder sonhar
Deixar nas mãos da sorte o futuro
Não basta
Deixar nas mãos da sorte o futuro
Leva a nada
Leva a nada
It could happen right here in L.A.
It could happen right here im the U.S.A.
It could happen over there in Brazil today
It could happen to you
It could happen to me
No peace in the city and laws in jeopardy
So much pain to release and it wasn't letting me
Be myself in thir whole other reality
Cities across this nation-a-crumblin
Tumbling to a pitfall with a democrat republican party
Take over
Now picture that
Utskirts of hell
Oblivipus region
In the middle of nowhere where doom is the legion
Now to protect this sarth, is no longer the label
Now it's find to kill qhen it's willing and able
No more legit check, it's payed under the table
Do you understand?
Do you understand?
Deixar nas mãos da sorte o futuro
Não basta
Deixar nas mãos da sorte o futuro
Leva a nada
Deixar nas mãos da sorte o futuro
Não basta
Deixar nas mãos da sorte o futuro
Leva a nada
Falta oportunidade
Falta terra no campo
Falta paz na cidade
Ta sobrando mentira
Ta faltando a verdade
E as nossas crianças tão perdendo a esperança
Tão crescendo com medo, separadas por grades
The song "Nas Mãos da Sorte" by Sandy e Junior highlights the struggles and challenges faced by people from different walks of life who have had to abandon their dreams due to various reasons, such as poverty, lack of opportunities, corruption, and violence. The lyrics describe instances of people who have had to engage in criminal activities or abandon their education to survive. The verses talk about a boy who was begging on the streets who ended up selling drugs, a girl who aspired to become a teacher but instead became a kidnapper, and a person who wanted to be an athlete but was killed by the police. The lyrics also mention politicians who are corrupt and who make life more difficult for the poor and marginalized.
The chorus emphasizes the message that leaving the future in the hands of fate is not enough and will not lead to anything productive. The song suggests that change is necessary, and people must strive to open their eyes, fight, grow, and dream to create a better future. The song calls for more attention to be paid to the issues affecting society, such as poverty, corruption, and violence. The song highlights the importance of love, living, learning, and searching for solutions to create a better future.
