At the age of twenty, Stéphane decided his future lay on the stage. The only problem was deciding which of his artistic ambitions to concentrate on first: learning the guitar, the banjo or training as an actor. He eventually plumped for the latter and, after taking a course run by the actor Serge Martin, he enrolled at DAL Théâtre for a three-year stint. Here, he mastered the art of Comédia dell’Arte and clowning, and also learnt to play banjo and guitar.

The lyrics to Sanseverino's song "La Maison Sur Le Port" reflect upon memories of a lively and vibrant house by the port, where songs were sung and men would come to drink and dream. The atmosphere in the house was filled with the laughter of girls and the sounds of wine-induced singing. The fishermen would visit casually before heading out to sea to cast their nets. It was a place of warmth and comfort, where people would gather and find solace.
However, as time passes, the mood shifts in the song. The shutters open to reveal a different reality. The laughter of the girls has faded away, replaced by a sense of emptiness. A bespectacled bureaucrat sits amidst stacks of papers, losing himself in their monotony. The once colorful lamps and flowers have disappeared, and even Maria, with her flowing hair and bare arms, is absent. It seems as if everything in the house has died, losing its vibrancy and life.
The singer revisits the house one night, hoping to find it as it was before. Yet, he is met with disappointment. The couples dancing are mere shadows of what they used to be, remnants of the past. He searches in vain for the girl he once loved, who was not only a singer but also knew how to love passionately. The house, once so full of life, is now completely devoid of it. The singer mourns the lost years and the fading memories.

Il y avait des chansons, des chansons,
There were songs, many songs,

Where the girls laughed loudly
Où le vin faisait chanter, chanter, chanter
Where the wine made them sing, sing, sing
Les pêcheurs vous le diront
The fishermen will tell you
Ils y venaient sans façon
They came without hesitation
Avant de partir tirer leurs filets
Before leaving to cast their nets
Ils venaient se réchauffer près de nous
They came to warm themselves near us
Dans la maison sur le port
In the house on the port
Les volets se sont ouverts et depuis
The shutters opened and since then
Les rires des filles se sont envolés
The laughter of the girls has vanished

A bespectacled civil servant
