Santana is a Latin music and rock band formed in San Francisco, California … Read Full Bio ↴Santana is a Latin music and rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist Carlos Santana. The band came to public attention with their performance of "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock in 1969. This exposure helped propel their first album, also named Santana, into a hit, followed in the next two years by Abraxas and Santana III. Lineup changes were common. Carlos Santana's increasing involvement with guru Sri Chinmoy took the band into more esoteric music, though it never lost its Latin influence.
In 1998, the band Santana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Carlos Santana, JosƩ "Chepito" Areas, David Brown, Gregg Rolie, Mike Carabello, and Michael Shrieve The band has earned nine Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, the latter all in 2000. Carlos Santana won a Grammy Award as a solo artist in 1988. The band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling groups of all time. In 2013, Santana announced a reunion of the classic line-up for a new album, Santana IV, which was released in April 2016. They are tied for having the most won Grammy Awards in one night.

I agree about "that time" your referring to... and vibe that Carlos was so much a part of.
Ā One, from of a short list of Guitar Players influencing my approach in guitar playing... As so many others.
Ā
Along with collaborating with the now, "lifelong friend, and guitar deity, J. McLaughlin.. It was truly an inspirational experience to have these two cats in particular, bending my ears with a surrendering love for a higher discipline.
Of course, I refer the 'Love, Devotion, Surrender" LP, back in the day.

About "Song Of The Wind.."
I saw your post about the solo times when Neal and Carlos are trading phrases.
It's my understanding that Neal played the entire lead guitar section on the song. It was a spotlight opp for Neal while the credits don't really detail the outcome. If I'm incorrect about this topic, I'd like to find out.
I admit., It does sound good with Schon's remarkable "Carlos counterpoint" approach.
Although., If you know your instruments and listen for that Stratocaster tone throughout, Neal's instrument on "Song Of The Wind" provides that "counterpoint" as I mentioned. Reminiscent to the first 'Journey' LP, where Neal use a Stratocaster without a doubt.
Carlos likely owned the number under Santana's Copy Write, etc, but CS never took solo credits on the original studio version. Who knows weather the two shared or changed it up for the solo "live."
A friend luckier than I, saw the Caravanserai tour and reported that the tune was one of Neal's solo spots with Carlos playing the backup rhythm... So he says.
Carlos does obviously perform the piece, "live." Around the time "Journey" was newly formed.
Anyway... Just trivia.
Peace out, soundspur. I sense what's on your mind is what's on the mind's of many...
Don't worry.. There is love and peace in everyone that seeks it. Your not alone.

In 1986 I made a solo road trip from Flagstaff, headed for S. Utah. Driving across Monument Valley at night, sky full of stars, just me, the wind and the solitude, my cassette player started playing this song. I felt like I was the only one on the planet except for the music, so I put it on repeat and transcended sleep and fatigue. I will always remember that experience as long as I live: a natural high, no supplements required!

My God, same thing happened to me late at night... No one anywhere in sight, I pulled over right on the highway opened my door and sat on the hood looking up, car shut off listening to this masterpiece... To this day I think about that night so vividly. It makes me smile
