Well All Right
Santana Lyrics

Well, All Right
Petty, Alison, Holly, Mauldin

Well, all right so I'm being foolish
Well, all right let people know
About the dreams and wishes you wish
In the night when the lights are low
Well, all right, well all right
We'll live and love with all our might
Well, all right, well all right
Our lifetime love will be all right

Well, all right, so I'm going steady
It's all right when people say
That those foolish kids can't be ready
For the love that comes their way

Well, all right, well all right
We'll live and love with all our might
Well, all right, well all right

Our lifetime love will be all right
Repeat last verse

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Santana's song "Well All Right" are about living and loving without apologies. The song starts with the singer acknowledging that they may be acting foolishly, but they are still going forward with their dreams and wishes. They are unafraid to let others see their vulnerabilities, especially in those quiet moments when the lights are low. Santana suggests that it's alright to let one's guard down and allow others to see the real you. Your authenticity should be embraced.

As the song continues, the singer mentions that they are "going steady," which is a sign of their commitment to another person. They don't care if others don't think they are ready for love, as long as they believe in it themselves. Santana emphasizes the importance of living and loving with all one's might, knowing that their lifetime love will be alright. The song's message is that we should remain open to love and take risks, even if there is a chance of heartbreak.

One of the best covers ever! They made this song their own. Still great after all these years.

Aside from Carlos' superb and one of a kind sound and style, I always thought Greg Walker's vocals made a HUGE difference during this period of time where all these unbelievably awesome albums were coming out.  Anyone else agree?

Ron Yingling

I couldn't agree more. I've been a big fan for about forty years. I always thought Greg Walker was probably one my favorite periods for Santana.

JiggerPick

Agree totally - Greg's vocals were one of the main reasons I bought Inner Secrets - Jeez - 36 years ago!!!

Ron Yingling Awesome.  It's kind of interesting, though, the shift from Greg Walker to Alex Ligertwood right after this album with Marathon which not only marked the end of Greg Walker's tenure with Santana, but pretty much the start of Santana's unfortunate decline (so to speak) which was really too bad because I thought this period including the next two albums was fantastic!  Marathon was outstanding!  Zebop was ok but I think it marked the slide and then Shango and Beyond Appearances were unfortunately not as good.  Man, brings back some great memories but I'm with you guys in this album.  I think that mixture of hard rock with a Latin percussive beats was wicked risky but it worked for sure!

JiggerPick 36 years ago!  Thanks for reminding me, dang!  Hard to believe it's been that long but you listen to it and think WTF happened to all this great music and why does it suck today?  You'd be hard pressed to find anything as good and wholesome and inspiring and influencial.  I suppose it's a generational thing.

Lots of musicians do covers but Carlos Santana takes whatever he touches to a whole different level.......

Archie Woosung

Down a level, or two, from the original, you mean?

Oliver Schröder

Lorraine Ashby so does Manfred Mann
