Lights Out
Santogold/Santigold Lyrics

Lights out, shoot up the station
Tv's dead where's there to run?
Watch everybody come undone (lights out)
Won't make it easy, won't make it fun
Won't let them see now, how they have one

Still I'll go another round
Darlin'
Don't got to worry you're locked in tight
Darlin' (must be worth it 'cause the more)
(I try the more it gets uneven)
Now don't you worry turn out the lights (I can shake it I keep thinking)
(But it's with me for a reason)

Wiped out, no concentration
They got us basking in a storm
I watch it as it loses form, I doubt
They even see me, guess what I want
A casualty but I am up front

And I know what it's about

Darlin'
Don't got to worry you're locked in tight
Darlin' (must be worth it 'cause the more)
(I try the more it gets uneven)
Now don't you worry turn out the lights (I can shake it I keep thinking)
(But it's with me for a reason)

I'm still here shaking my head
The one you can't account for
I keep just one step ahead
There's no place to run

Darlin'
Don't got to worry you're locked in tight
Darlin' (must be worth it 'cause the more)
(I try the more it gets uneven)
Now don't you worry turn out the lights (I can shake it I keep thinking)
(But it's with me for a reason)

Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah

Darlin'
Don't got to worry you're locked in tight
Darlin' (must be worth it 'cause the more)
(I try the more it gets uneven)
Now don't you worry turn out the lights (I can shake it I keep thinking)
(But it's with me for a reason)

Darlin'
Don't got to worry you're locked in tight
Darlin' (must be worth it 'cause the more)
(I try the more it gets uneven)
Now don't you worry turn out the lights (I can shake it I keep thinking)
(But it's with me for a reason)

Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah

Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah

Overall Meaning

The song "Lights Out" by Santigold expresses feelings of being disconnected, confused and struggling to keep up with everything around us. The opening line of the song, "Lights out, shoot up the station" suggests a violent reaction to the chaos and confusion of modern society. The mention of the dead TV creates a sense of isolation as the singer feels there is no escape from the disorderliness around them. The lines "Won't make it easy, won't make it fun, won't let them see now, how they have won" imply that the prevalent culture doesn't offer easy solutions, and encourages competition and domination over camaraderie and cooperation.

In the chorus, the singer reassures their loved one that they don't have to worry, they are "locked in tight". They encourage them to turn out the lights and not be afraid of the darkness. The repetition of "must be worth it 'cause the more (I try the more it gets uneven)" suggests that the singer and their loved one are trying to work things out, but the more they try, the more difficult it becomes. The line "But it's with me for a reason" suggests that the singer is going through a difficult time for a purpose and they will come out of it stronger in the end.

Overall, "Lights Out" is a commentary on the struggles and confusion of modern society, our inability to escape it, and the importance of having someone to rely on.

Lights out, shoot up the station
TV's dead, where's there to run?
Watch everybody come undone
Lights out, we'll make it easy, we'll make it fun
Won't let them see now, how they had won
Still I wait another round

TV's dead where's there to run?
Watch everybody come undone (Lights out)
We'll make it easy we'll make it run
One life they see now, how'd they get one?

Still I'll wait another run

Don't worry
Don't have to worry till I hit the lights

Wiped out, no concentration
They got us baskin' in a stole
I watched your ass head lose it all (Wiped out)
They ain't gone see me that's what I want
A casualty but I have more fun

And I know what it's about

Don't worry
Don't got to worry man I got you tight
Don't worry
Don't have to worry till I hit the lights

I'm still here shaking my head
The way you care to come forth
I can't do what's down my head
There's no place to run

Don't worry…

Takes me back to 2008 when this came out and it hurts a lot now that this is not brand new. Santigold is criminal understand. Its got a 90's vibe as well. Love this song.
