In 1943, Sara Montiel started getting involved in show business after winning a new talent contest sponsored by a local filming company. Her debut came after playing a role in the movie Te Quiero Para Mi, directed by Ladislao Vajda. However, the newcomer's breakthrough came in 1948 with the successful Locura de Amor. In the early '50s, Montiel settled in Mexico and began her singing career while working along with Pedro Infante, Manolo Fábregas, and Agustin Lara, among other prominent local artists. In 1954, the acclaimed actress had the opportunity to work along with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster in the making of Veracruz.
Montiel rose to Latin music stardom with the release of El Ultimo Cuplé (aka The Last Torch Song) movie soundtrack. During the 1970s, she toured the world leading celebrated musicals such as Saritísima, Increíble Sara, Super Sara Show, and Doña Sara de la Mancha. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide

Agua Que No Has De Beber is a classic Spanish song sung by Sara Montiel. The lyrics of this song are a woman's response to the rumors and lies being spread about her by someone. The singer is confused as to why someone is actively spreading lies about her character for no apparent reason. The song can be seen as a commentary on how people can easily believe rumors without trying to understand the truth.
The lyrics, "No se porque andas diciendo que soy mala Que el alma tengo negra muy negra" which translates to "I don't know why you're saying I'm bad that I have a very, very black soul" shows how the singer has been maligned and misunderstood. The word "black" is used to indicate the depth of the singer's emotions, not necessarily to indicate something sinister or dark. Additionally, the lyrics, "Que soy interesada y pretenciosa Que de orgullosa no cabe más" translate to "That I'm interested and pretentious, that I'm too proud." These lines suggest that the singer is being accused of being too full of herself, too focused on material things, and too self-absorbed.
