In 1943, Sara Montiel started getting involved in show business after winning a new talent contest sponsored by a local filming company. Her debut came after playing a role in the movie Te Quiero Para Mi, directed by Ladislao Vajda. However, the newcomer's breakthrough came in 1948 with the successful Locura de Amor. In the early '50s, Montiel settled in Mexico and began her singing career while working along with Pedro Infante, Manolo Fábregas, and Agustin Lara, among other prominent local artists. In 1954, the acclaimed actress had the opportunity to work along with Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster in the making of Veracruz.
Montiel rose to Latin music stardom with the release of El Ultimo Cuplé (aka The Last Torch Song) movie soundtrack. During the 1970s, she toured the world leading celebrated musicals such as Saritísima, Increíble Sara, Super Sara Show, and Doña Sara de la Mancha. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide

Sara Montiel Lyrics

me has dejado en el abandono
aunque tú
has muerto mis ilusiones.
En vez de maldecirte
con justo enojo
en mis sueños te colmo
de bendiciones.
Sufro la inmensa pena de tu extravío
siento el dolor profundo
de tu partida
y lloro sin que sepas
que el llanto mío
tiene lágrimas negras
tiene lágrimas negras
como mi vida.
Y lloro sin que sepas
que el llanto mío
tiene lágrimas negras
tiene lágrimas negras
como mi vida.
The lyrics of Sara Montiel's traditional Cuban song "Lágrimas Negras" speak of heartache, loss, and sorrow. The first two lines speak of being left alone and having one's dreams shattered by a loved one. The singer is clearly in pain, but instead of resenting this person, they choose to bless them in their dreams. This shows a mature and forgiving attitude toward the situation, despite the pain it has caused.
The next few lines talk about the immense sadness the singer feels from this separation, expressing deep pain and mourning. The final lines express this sadness as "black tears," comparing the darkness of the tears to the singer's life. The repetition of the final lines emphasizes the depth and intensity of the singer's sorrow.
Overall, the lyrics of "Lágrimas Negras" paint a picture of someone who has been hurt deeply by a loved one's departure, but who chooses to heal through forgiveness and blessings rather than blaming and resentment. It's a powerful expression of the complexities of love and loss.
