Move Me
Sara Watkins Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like all those years in school
What they said is what you say
What they saw is what you see
You like a clear drawn line, partitioned and defined
So you can rest knowing everything is as it should be
But I want you to move
Want you to move me
We've got our back and forth
We always stay the corse
Talking quickly doesn't leave much time for questioning
So much is repetition
We mimic old decisions
And walk the same path
Just because we know where it will lead
But I want you to move
Want you to move me
I want you to move me
Want you to move me
But you just keep the peace
I won't give you all I got
Cause I fear you'll disapprove
Underlined and open eyes
The heart will follow through
Take you up and bring you back
But you will not be moved
But I want you to move
Want you to move me
I want you to move me
Want you to move me, move me
I want you to move me
Want you to move me
I want you to move me
The lyrics to Sara Watkins's song "Move Me" convey a strong message about the desire for change and motion in a stagnant relationship or situation. The opening lines suggest that the singer is someone who adheres to convention, strictly following the rules and guidelines set by others. She is comfortable with the routine and with knowing exactly what to expect. However, the chorus reveals her desire to be moved, to experience something different and exciting.
The second verse highlights the monotony of the relationship. The couple has fallen into a pattern of repetition, simply mimicking old decisions without questioning them. She longs for something more profound and feels that talking quickly doesn't leave much room for introspection. The singer implores her partner to seize the moment and take a risk, but he remains emotionally unresponsive.
The third verse brings the tension to a head. The singer fears that if she reveals her true feelings, her partner will disapprove. Despite this, she is determined to follow her heart and take decisive action. The final chorus conveys the singer's desperation as she pleads for her partner to move her, to show her something new, and to break free from their stagnant routine.
Overall, "Move Me" is a powerful and relatable anthem for anyone who has felt trapped or stagnant in a relationship or situation. It speaks to the universal human desire for change, motion, and growth.

The last time I heard such powerful vocals was Johnette Napolitano singing Joey. Completely different song, but I am so glad to find a singer songwriter like Sara. I look forward to more of her.

This song randomly played on my phone & something told me to sit and listen. I followed the lyrics on Apple Music and it wasn’t long before i realized the lyrics were a message from my higher self.
Everything i want is at my finger tips, i can have it all but my future self needs me. I’ve got to take the steps.
I’ve got to take the steps to branch off from the life society or my upbringing created for me. I’ve got to tap in and create the life that I want. Take steps I need to take toward my definition of happiness. My future self is tired of being put on pause. Ive given up on myself soooo many times that its time to get consistent. When I give up on myself, I reject my happiness. The outside can no longer influence the relationship i have with myself. Time to move “me” closer to “my” happiness. 🤍
