Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Want to feel your warmth upon me
I want to be the one
I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard
I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
So afraid to love you
But more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me life
I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I will remember you, will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories
The lyrics to Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" are an emotional and reflective exploration of memories and lost love. The singer is pleading with their former partner to not forget the good times they shared, despite the difficulties they faced. The song conveys the feeling of being on the brink of something too deep to handle and struggling to express oneself, but clinging to the hope that memories will keep them connected.
The first verse sets the stage for the rest of the song by asking if the other person will remember them, indicating that there might be distance between the two. The second verse depicts a sense of exhaustion, standing on the edge of something deep without the ability to express it. The chorus repeats the plea to not let life pass by without remembering the good times they had, and not to weep for the memories.
The bridge of the song brings up the fear of losing the other person, and a sense of being trapped by the past. However, the last verse brings a sense of lightness to the song, with the acknowledgement that the other person brought life into the singer's existence. The song ends with the repeated chorus, offering a final plea to not forget what they once had.
Overall, McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" epitomizes the feelings that come with the end of a relationship or even the loss of a loved one. It speaks to the human experience of clinging to memories as a way to keep loved ones alive and connected to us.
