Me voilà même si mise à nue j'ai peur, oui
Me voilà dans le bruit et dans le silence
Regardez moi
Ou du moins ce qu'il en reste
Regardez moi
Avant que je me déteste
Quoi vous dire, que les lèvres d'une autre ne vous diront pas
C'est peu de chose mais moi tout ce que j'ai je le dépose là, voilà
Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà qui je suis
Me voilà même si mise à nue c'est fini
Me voilà dans le bruit et dans la fureur aussi
Regardez moi enfin et mes yeux et mes mains
Tout c'que j'ai est ici, c'est ma gueule c'est mon cri
Me voilà, me voilà, me voilà
Voilà
In “Voilà,” Sarah’s lyrics present a vulnerable yet powerful declaration of identity and artistic ambition. The song begins with an invitation for listeners to hear her story, introducing herself as "la chanteuse à demi" — the half-singer. This phrase can symbolize her feeling of incompleteness or a reluctance to fully reveal her inner self. She urges the audience to talk about her to their loves and friends, emphasizing her desire for connection and recognition. This longing for validation suggests that her journey as an artist is not only about personal achievement but also about reaching out to others and impacting their lives through her music. The reference to "cette fille aux yeux noirs et de son rêve fou" paints a vivid picture of her, highlighting both her distinctive features and her ambitious dreams, which she wishes for others to know and understand. Her wish to "écrire des histoires qui arrivent jusqu'à vous" indicates that she wants to share meaningful tales through her lyrics, making it clear that her artistry is deeply rooted in storytelling that connects with her audience.
As the chorus unfolds with the repetition of "Voilà," the song transitions into a declaration of self-identity. Pronouncing "Voilà, voilà, voilà, voilà qui je suis" serves both as an affirmation and an introduction, when she bravely exposes her true self despite her fears of vulnerability. By stating "mise à nue j'ai peur," she acknowledges the risks involved in exposing her innermost self, suggesting a sense of trepidation that accompanies authenticity. The juxtaposition of “bruit et silence” reflects the duality of her experience — the chaos of public life contrasted with moments of introspection. This duality suggests that while she may appear strong and confident, there are internal struggles that come with revealing her authentic identity to the world. This self-presentation invites the audience to see her not just as a performer, but as a complex individual grappling with her layers of existence.
The lyrics then shift to a plea for observation, with "Regardez moi" conveying a desire for attention and acknowledgment in her personal journey. There’s a poignant sense of urgency in her request to be seen “avant que je me déteste.” This line reveals her fear of self-loathing and the potential for harm that can arise from the harsh judgments of oneself and others. It's a desperate moment woven with vulnerability; she fears that if she doesn't share herself now, she might fade away into self-doubt. The phrase “Quoi vous dire, que les lèvres d'une autre ne vous diront pas” speaks to the uniqueness of her voice and perspective, suggesting that there are aspects of her story that can only be conveyed through her own experience. In essence, this line reiterates her yearning to present her authentic self, emphasizing that the truth she bears is distinct from what anyone else can offer.
Finally, the concluding lines reinforce her sense of self and agency, where she comes back to the chorus theme of “Voilà.” This repetition becomes a triumphant affirmation of existence and artistic legitimacy. The declaration that “tout c'que j'ai est ici” emphasizes a full presence, suggesting that despite her fears and struggles, she is wholly committed to sharing everything she possesses, which includes her pain, her passion, and her creativity. The imagery of her “yeux et mes mains” serves as symbolic representations of both sight and action, evoking a sense of urgency in proclaiming her presence. The phrases “c'est ma gueule c'est mon cri” signify a raw, authentic expression of self that transcends mere performance. Ultimately, "Voilà" culminates in a powerful assertion of identity; it manifests a complex blend of vulnerability, resilience, and a deep desire for connection, as Sarah holds nothing back in inviting the world to recognize and celebrate her essence.
