His EP "Go" was released in 2004; he released an album "Scream" in 2005, which was followed by the release of "Shine" in 2007.
"I had been wanting to do this for a long time," Bettens has said of his solo career. "It's a whole new challenge, and it kind of makes me feel like it's my first record. Everything has a new level of excitement to it, especially touring."
In the summer of 2006, Bettens played several of the summer's biggest European festivals, in front of crowds of more than 20,000 people. Gigging with new musicians, Bettens was thrilled with the reaction from fans. "The shows were amazing," said Bettens. "The K's Choice fans were really excited that I'm doing something different, and people who didn't know me from Ks Choice really responded to the new songs. It was way beyond my expectations."
The new songs that Bettens has written as a solo artist have also surpassed his expectations. As part of K's Choice, Bettens wrote songs with a certain sound in mind. Now, on his own, he feels more able to explore himself as an artist, taking risks and blending pop, rock and folk to create a new radio-ready sound that goes beyond anything he had done before.
Bettens takes a chance with his lyrics as well, taking a political stance and tackling issues that are important to young people everywhere. The first single from Scream, "Not Insane", has been described by Bettens as a mini-protest song, attacking people who cannot tolerate others who are different or who live alternative lifestyles.
The spirited songwriter's desire to take risks is also evident in Scream's title track. "I'd been working on these two songs, and I was really happy with the verses on one but the chorus wasn't happening. And it was just the opposite with the other - the chorus rocked, but I didn't like the verses." Bettens took the verses from the first song and combined them with the chorus from the second to create a quirky song that boasts a sense of urgency. The experiment worked just like his solo career.

Deep down you've always known
Something sweet is on the other side
Mama is gonna cry for you
Papa might disown you
You are getting ready for the ride
So won't you come over here?
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Wear this shirt you think you like
There's all kinds of shades of white
Embrace the colour in your life
You can't see beyond the wall
Paradise for those who fall
Out of grace, there simply out of side
So won't you come over here?
Come over here
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Someone out there will hate you now
But what you take is what you allow
Wear this shirt you think you like
There's all kinds of shades of white
Embrace the colour in your life
You can't see beyond the wall
Paradise for those who fall
Out of grace, there simply out of side
So won't you come over here?
Come over here
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Why don't you
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Come over here
Nana nana nana nana na
nana nana nana
Come over here
The lyrics of Sarah Bettens's song Come Over Here describe the anticipation and courage needed to take a risk and go after something that appears sweet and desirable. The first few lyrics state that "Something tells you, you should go/Deep down you've always known/Something sweet is on the other side." This is essentially encouraging the listener to take a risk and venture into unknown territory, as they have a gut feeling that something good awaits them there. However, this comes with the realization that some loved ones might not agree with the choices made, and these choices could result in separation and causing pain. The lyrics "Mama is gonna cry for you/Papa might disown you/You are getting ready for the ride" highlight the possibility of familial rejection, but also the continued resolve to move forward.
The chorus of the song - "So won't you come over here?" - is a repeated call from the artist, asking the listener to join her in pursuing the unknown. The lyrics "Someone out there will hate you now/But what you take is what you allow" encourages listeners to embrace their selves and the change that comes with going after their desires. Ultimately, the song is enlightening and empowering, as it invites listeners to take a leap of faith and embrace the choices they make, however unconventional they may seem.
