His EP "Go" was released in 2004; he released an album "Scream" in 2005, which was followed by the release of "Shine" in 2007.
"I had been wanting to do this for a long time," Bettens has said of his solo career. "It's a whole new challenge, and it kind of makes me feel like it's my first record. Everything has a new level of excitement to it, especially touring."
In the summer of 2006, Bettens played several of the summer's biggest European festivals, in front of crowds of more than 20,000 people. Gigging with new musicians, Bettens was thrilled with the reaction from fans. "The shows were amazing," said Bettens. "The K's Choice fans were really excited that I'm doing something different, and people who didn't know me from Ks Choice really responded to the new songs. It was way beyond my expectations."
The new songs that Bettens has written as a solo artist have also surpassed his expectations. As part of K's Choice, Bettens wrote songs with a certain sound in mind. Now, on his own, he feels more able to explore himself as an artist, taking risks and blending pop, rock and folk to create a new radio-ready sound that goes beyond anything he had done before.
Bettens takes a chance with his lyrics as well, taking a political stance and tackling issues that are important to young people everywhere. The first single from Scream, "Not Insane", has been described by Bettens as a mini-protest song, attacking people who cannot tolerate others who are different or who live alternative lifestyles.
The spirited songwriter's desire to take risks is also evident in Scream's title track. "I'd been working on these two songs, and I was really happy with the verses on one but the chorus wasn't happening. And it was just the opposite with the other - the chorus rocked, but I didn't like the verses." Bettens took the verses from the first song and combined them with the chorus from the second to create a quirky song that boasts a sense of urgency. The experiment worked just like his solo career.
Sister

When you didn't think I,
Was a very good friend
Sister you must think I'm out of my mind
It's a struggle sometimes to pretend
But I know what I'm doing,
I know who I am
I know how it works and
Sister I need you more now than I ever did
I've been thinking again, I've been thinking again
Life can be tricky,
And sneak up on you
Like a tiger looking for pray
We've had our share of surprises,
There must be a good one coming our way
'Cause we're really all looking,
We're really all lost
The less we expect,
The smaller the costs
Sister I miss you more now, then I ever did
I've been thinking again, I've been thinking again
Things that aren't funny,
Are funny with you
So I'm better when you are around
I might say I don't need any advice
But I wear the clothes that I found
In the back of your closet,
Wherever you hide
Secrets that nobody ever will find
Sister I love you more, then I ever did
I've been thinking again, I've been thinking again
Sister I love you more, then I ever did
I've been thinking again, I've been thinking again
In the song "Sister" by Sarah Bettens, the singer reflects on her relationship with her sister. The song starts out with the acknowledgement that there have been times when the singer wasn't the best friend to her sister. The singer then reveals that it's difficult to pretend sometimes, but she knows who she is and where it will lead her. This seems to suggest that the singer is aware that she and her sister may not always see eye-to-eye, but it's important for her to maintain their relationship.
As the song progresses, the singer admits that she needs her sister now more than ever. She references how life can be unpredictable and how they've both had their fair share of surprises. Despite this, there's still hope for something good to come their way. The singer even suggests that by having lower expectations, the costs will be smaller. Basically, the song is about how life can be tough, but having a strong bond with someone, like a sister, can make it easier to handle.
The final section of the song is the most touching. The singer mentions how things that aren't funny become funny when she's with her sister. She talks about wearing clothes that she found in her sister's closet and knowing secrets that nobody else will ever know. The singer ends the song by saying that she loves her sister now more than ever before.
Overall, "Sister" is a heartwarming tribute to siblinghood. The song acknowledges that there can be bumps in the road, but ultimately, it's important to cherish the relationship with someone who knows you better than anyone else.
