SARAH BLACKWOOD grew up listening to her father’s rock and roll record collection. When she was twelve years old, her father handed her an acoustic guitar, taught her the basics and the rest, as they say, is history. Her style is influenced by old country and rock music. She’s a sweetheart with an acoustic guitar singing about love, demons she has faced, and different times in her life that have brought her down. These moments faced picked her up and made her create the songs what they are today. Also known as the front-woman for The Creepshow, Sarah has toured all across the world and has honed her live show to an exact and heartwarming science.
Picking up where “Way Back Home” left off, Sarah Blackwood’s sophomore solo album “Wasting Time” is an intensely personal collection of beautifully-crafted, roots country songs that also touches on elements of gospel, pop and soul. Where her debut was a stripped down, raw acoustic album, “Wasting Time” raises the bar by adding an incredibly talented roster of players, friends and family. Sarah’s one-man band Daniel Flamm (Heartbreak Engines, Sewer Rats) came in from Germany to add vocals, lead guitar, banjo and piano. Producer Gianni Luminati lends a hand with percussion, ukulele, mandolin and bass. Other guest musicians include brother Ian Blackwood, father Mike Blackwood, bandmate Sean “Sickboy” McNab and Lee Williamson on lapsteel.
“Wasting Time” showcases Sarah Blackwood’s undeniably passionate and sincerely honest songwriting style that is as touching as it is inspiring.
What the press is saying:
“This is a solid record, one of stark, solitary power. Blackwood excels at writing songs that while infused with pathos, aren't downers, and those that speak to universal experiences without seeming trite.” – The Hour
“…all great tracks on an album of acoustic gems.” Toronto Music Scene
“There’s an untouched feeling to Way Back Home in that it sounds at time like a collection of homemade demos, but really its more like an old, faded photograph capturing Blackwood and her emotions in the rawest form.” – Vue Weekly

Well it's hard on your head when every day is a bet on how long it'll take you just to get out of bed and I know, that kind of love will make a grown man cry
Oh and I've, been drowning in love
Oh and I've, been drowning in this love
Oh and I'll, be drowning in this love until the day that I die
And all because of this you said I pushed to the edge and then I stood right there and ripped your heart from your chest and I know, that kind of love will make a grown man cry
Oh and I've, been drowning in love
Oh and I've, been drowning in this love
Oh and I'll, be drowning in this love until the day that I die
You had every right to walk away without turning around
And the days go by so slowly but the years keep sneaking around
Every chance I had to say I'm sorry well I just choked it down
Never really had the guts to tell you baby, I still want you around
Oh and I've, been drowning in love
Oh and I've, been drowning in this love
Oh and I'll, be drowning in this love until the day that I die
Sarah Blackwood's "Drowning" is a song about the intense and overwhelming nature of love. The lyrics describe the feeling of being completely consumed by love, to the point where it becomes suffocating and even destructive. The song begins with the image of the singer holding a bottle of whisky, suggesting that she is drowning her sorrows and trying to escape from the pain of her love. However, she acknowledges that this kind of love is so powerful that it can make a grown man cry.
The second verse describes the fallout of a messy relationship, with the singer confessing that she has not been the best partner to her significant other. It seems that she has caused pain and heartache in the relationship, and her partner has reached a breaking point. The chorus repeats the idea that the singer is drowning in love, and will continue to do so until the day she dies.
The final verse is a reflection on lost opportunities and regret. The singer acknowledges that she had chances to make things right and apologize, but she was too scared to take them. She acknowledges that her partner had every right to walk away, but she still wants them to be around. The song ends on a mournful note, with the singer resigned to the fact that she will continue to drown in this overwhelming love, even if it brings her pain.

Suddenly, I remembered this song that I first heard when I was just a little girl, too young and naive. I loved it but I didn't understand the lyrics. Now I do. So glad I remembered it.
