Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Requiem" by Sarah Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston are based on the traditional Latin Mass for the Dead. The refrain "Pie Jesu" translates to "merciful Jesus" and is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the pleading and supplicating tone of the piece. The choir sings "Qui tollis peccata mundi" which means "who takes away the sins of the world," calling on Jesus to grant a peaceful rest to the deceased. The text is a prayer asking for eternal rest for the souls of the dead, and the repetition of the phrases adds to the solemn and peaceful atmosphere of the music.

The lyrics of the song highlight the religious and spiritual themes and reflect the powerful emotions of loss and mourning. The haunting melody and the use of the Latin language make the song sound timeless, and the powerful performance of Sarah Brightman makes it a truly memorable and moving piece of music. The song has been widely used in funerals and other occasions to commemorate the dead, and it has become a deeply emotional and personal piece for many people.

I looked this up because of Malaki's performance as well. It makes me cry everytime I hear it but I cant stop listening. I imagine this is the "muzak" of Heaven.

@Ravenelvenlady

I certainly am. I remember it well when it was first released. It's an absolutely exquisite performance and setting of this sacred text. It still brings tears to my eyes. I also remember first hearing it to the soundtrack from where the images of this video come: a film called Hope & Glory.
