Sarah Brightman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Outcast and Stranger, Lord of us all
Child Who inherits all our transgressions
All our demerits upon Him fall
Once the most holy Child of salvation
Gently and lowly lived here below
Now as our glorious mighty Redeemer
Prophets foretold Him, Infant of wonder
Angels behold Him on His throne
Worthy our Savior of all our praises
Happy forever are His own
The lyrics of Sarah Brightman's song "Child in a Manger" speak of the birth of Jesus Christ as a humble and divine event. The first stanza acknowledges Jesus as an outcast and stranger, yet the Lord of us all. The lyrics speak of how Jesus inherits all our transgressions and demerits, bearing them all upon himself. The child in the manger was once the most holy child of salvation, living here below in a gentle and lowly way. But now, Jesus is our glorious and mighty Redeemer, victorious over every foe.
The second stanza of the lyrics speaks of how the prophets foretold of Jesus' coming, and the angels beheld him on his throne. The lyrics acknowledge Jesus as our savior, deserving of all our praises. Those who belong to Him are always happy and forever blessed in His sight. The song reminds us of the wonder and magnitude of Jesus Christ's birth, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the hope of salvation that is brought to humanity through his life and victory over sin and death.
