In my opinion, this sort of gives the feel that Juliet is the crazy one, frantically pursuing her obsession, dipping in and out of fantasy and reality. "I sneak out to the garden to see you," for instance, I imagine her sneaking into the garden to watch Romeo from his window. She's saying it's a love story, begging him to just say yes, and don't go, but that's all inside of her head. She's never even spoken to him beyond stuttered "Hello," but she whispers her desires, hidden in a garden bush as she watches him dress and go through his routines.

"They're trying to tell me how to feel" represents the concern for this unhealthy obsession from those who are aware of it, trying to pull her away, but because of this world that Juliet has built, because of how deep her delusions have gone, she sees this as a real obstruction of their imagined romance rather than the genuine concern that it is.

I feel like the ending is almost the only 'real' part. "I got tired of waiting, wondering if you were ever coming around, my faith in you was fading" and then, when we get to "when I met you on the outskirts of town," it shifts back into that unreality. In reality, she left him a note with her name, and it was so disgusting that he didn't dare touch it. He opens it, and like, maybe locks of her hair slip free, onto the floor, so he drops the letter, completely disgusted. Calls for a maid or butler to dispose of it. He never meets her—never has, never will.

Romeo is only just a man that Juliet craves and pines for, stalking and begging secretly for his attention, but whom Juliet has, ultimately, never had any 'real' interactions with. She saw him, once, when they were children, and latched on completely. He greeted her later at an event, as is polite, but she takes this almost as a confession, that politeness being enough to strike a chord in her heart, to make her feel as though he, too, loves her, but they have never connected. Never officially met. They've only seen each other in passing, but each time, each place, builds up new fantasies. She stands on her balcony as he passes by her house, eager to see him, to send a little wave, and she builds that up in her head and makes it romantic, just like the garden "visit."

"We'd be dead if they knew" is just slightly self-aware, due to her repeated counts of stalking and trespassing.

Everything, every 'account' where they make contact is pure fantasy—the imaginings of an obsessed woman, which is why, in the end, the only thing Romeo ever says only echoes Juliet's own words from the start: "It's a love story, baby, just say yes."

This iteration of Romeo isn't real, and never was, Juliet, as an unreliable narrator, made him up, constructed him slip-shod out of these barely there interactions, and read a single instance of politeness as a love confession, and so, rather than being something genuine, something else, the first words we ever hear—the only words we hear from Romeo just echo her own obsessive thoughts. She's so ... deep into this delusion, this fantasy, that she believes it all — and when he doesn't meet her ? Doesn't show up.

She makes up her own ending, because after the world she's built, she cannot cope with the alternative.

Wanted to add.

"We keep quiet cuz we'd be dead if they knew, so close your eyes. Escape this town for a little while."

She uses this fantasy Romeo as escapism.

In some place, internally, somewhere, Juliet is aware that she is wrong, but as stated. She is in too deep by now. He is everything to her, after all.

"This love is difficult"—referencing her real life struggles with the delusions, the doubt, the worry and concern; her maintaining this delusion is difficult.

And "But it's real" is her trying to reaffirm, both to herself, and others, that it is real.

"Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess," is directed not towards Romeo, but herself.

"Is this in my head, I don't know what to think" is also a brief sense of lucidity yet again. She is aware on some level, but as she is deeply rooted in her psychosis, she literally does not know. It is hard for her to separate reality from fiction at this stage. She believes her family to some extent, but she has built up trust with her delusions—Romeo is a man she trusts, and he never speaks unkindly to her. She believes—wants to believe; tries to believe—that his love is real, and rather than addressing that further, her lucidity fades, she is engrossed again, and 'Romeo' kneels to the ground and pulls out a ring, further entrenching her in this.

Also, the past tense state of this story leads me to believe that Juliet is in asylum, and rather than getting better, because of her conditions, she has, instead, regressed deeper into the delusion, hence the tones of escapism that exist throughout. Leaving town. Getting out. Crying. Running away.

Even begging him not to go as, when sedated, Romeo would leave, and she'd have to wait for him to come back, over and over, again and again.

Adding, also, more depth to "They're trying to tell me how to feel," and compounds on the difficulty of their "love."

LYRICS:

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes and the flashback starts:
I'm standing there
On a balcony in summer air

See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns
See you make your way through the crowd
And say, "Hello."
Little did I know

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, "Please don't go."
And I said

"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting. All there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story. Baby, just say 'Yes'."

So, I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet 'cause we're dead if they knew
So, close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while
Oh, oh

'Cause you were Romeo. I was a scarlet letter
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
But you were everything to me
I was begging you, "Please don't go!"
And I said

"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting. All there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story. Baby, just say 'Yes'

Romeo, save me. They're trying to tell me how to feel
This love is difficult but it's real
Don't be afraid. We'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story. Baby, just say 'Yes'."

Oh, oh, oh

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town
And I said

"Romeo, save me. I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think."
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said

"Marry me, Juliet. You'll never have to be alone
I love you, and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad. Go pick out a white dress
It's a love story. Baby, just say 'Yes'."

Dual Morality

For the sake of it, here's my very long/detailed mental music video description

So it starts out showing Juliet who's wearing a simple dress and shawl,  standing in the center of a crossroad and leaning against a signpost. She looks off into the darkness of night with a vacant expression as the camera zooms into her eye, then back out, showing her leaning on her balcony in a happier state- taking a brief respite from the extravagant party her father is throwing. Swirling skirts and laughing faces are seen in a panning shot of the ballroom, candle light glinting off the wall sconces and patrons' jewelry. Romeo makes his way through the jovial guests to stand beside her, making small talk and eventually leading to deeper conversations and hushed laughter. She leans against his shoulder and smiles contentedly before blinking, moving the timeline forward to autumn when Romeo was throwing pebbles, as is common by this point, and climbs up her balcony to be with her. Maybe they were just enjoying each others company or maybe they were enjoying each others "company"- regardless of what they were up to, her father finds out and has him roughly hauled down the staircase, all the while berating him and threatening his life if he ever finds him with his daughter again. Juliet rushes down the staircase after them, begging her father to stop whilst crying out for Romeo to not leave.

Later that night we see her writing a letter to him, venting about the situation and confessing her love to him before she slides the letter into an envelope and seals it before dropping it down to the grass below where he stands waiting.

We zoom into the white of the paper then pan out to her silently making her way to Romeo who is waiting in the snowy garden for her. They stroll through the hedges and whatnot, being quiet and both sharing a large shawl since it's a cold winter's night. Romeo and Juliet face each other and lean close so they can brainstorm a plan for her escape. The foreground, where they're discussing stuff, blurs and instead focuses on an upper story window that's illuminated by a single candle- her father glares out at them without them noticing. We see his face is contorted in fury as Romeo departs from Juliet's side, having agreed on a course of action.

Now the chorus kicks in again and we see lots of shots at ground level- people are running somewhere. These are intercut with scenes showing what's happening. Juliet rushes around her room to get a few possessions that she'd like to take with her when they leave. Romeo is running for his life through a dark and snowy forest while pursued by the father and his compatriots on horseback. Puffs of air escape their noses and mouths due to the extreme cold and finally one of them gets to Romeo and throws a noose over his head, dragging his flailing desperate body behind them as the horses keep running, heading to a clearing and preparing to lynch him for not heading the father's warning-- all this is happening while Juliet runs to the outskirts of town and waits next to the signpost, completely oblivious to what has happened.

Now is the bridge- she has been waiting for many hours now and he has still not made it. She slumps down and huddles against the post, wrapping her shivering frame in her thin shawl. She hadn't anticipated the long wait.

Pitifully she cries and shakes, fingertips and lips slightly blue, tears freezing on her cheeks and eyelashes. Just when she seems ready to give up we see Romeo galloping up on his horse, the scenery growing much more vibrant and bright the closer he gets to her. He quickly leaps off his horse to sweep her into his warm embrace and they share a long kiss. He wipes her eyes and explains that her father finally accepted their relationship, agreeing to let them marry and live happily ever after. A wide smile spreads across her face as she cries tears of joy, eyes glittering-- then we zoom into her eye again, like at the beginning, and it pulls out to show her slumped form still sitting in the snow. Her last dream was that he'd finally arrived to spirit her away to their new future together. Dawn has broken over the horizon and we see she's very much not alive. Blue lips are slightly parted, eyes partially open and frozen over, fingertips and the tip of her nose look almost black due to frostbite. The scene blurs and goes back to the opening- her form still standing in the crossroads from the beginning. She's very obviously a ghost and continues to stare off into the void, waiting for her Romeo to save her.

@Hamba Allah i think it's cause in Romeo and Juilet, six people died. if i remember correctly, it was Mercutio, Tybalt, Lady Montague, Paris, Romeo and Juliet who all died
