All my troubles, all my fears, dissolve in your affection
You've seen me at my weakest, but you take me as I am
And when I fall, you offer me a softer place to land
You stay the course, you hold the line, you keep it all together
You're the one true thing I know I can believe in
You're all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
I get mad so easy but you give me room to breathe
No matter what I say or do 'cause you're too good to fight about it
Even when I have to push, just to see how far you'll go
You won't stoop down to battle but you never turn to go
You stay the course, you hold the line, you keep it all together
You're the one true thing I know I can believe in
You're all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
You're the one true thing I know I can believe
Your love is just the antidote when nothing else can cure me
There are times I cant decide when I can't tell up from down
You make me feel less crazy when otherwise I'd drown
But you pick me up and brush me off and tell me I'm okay
Sometimes that's just what we need to get us through the day
You stay the course, you hold the line, you keep it all together
You're the one true thing I know I can believe in
You're all the things that I desire, you save me, you complete me
You're the one true thing I know I can believe
You stay the course, you hold the line, you keep it all together
You're the one true thing I know I can believe in
In Sarah McLachlan's song Push, the lyrics illustrate the depth of love and trust she has for the person she is addressing. From the very first line, she notes how looking at this person can make the rest of the world melt away, demonstrating how consumed she can be in their presence. The lyrics continue to express how this person is the one true thing she knows she can believe in, highlighting the trust and stability that exists between them. Despite her flaws and weaknesses, this person takes her as she is, offering her a place to land and giving her room to breathe, showcasing the unconditional love that exists between them.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of this person staying the course, holding the line, and keeping it all together, which is a reassuring reminder of the strength and consistency of their relationship. She notes how this person is everything she desires and how they save and complete her, again highlighting the immense love and trust that exists between them. The bridge further emphasizes how their love can be a cure for anything that ails her and how this person makes her feel less crazy when times are tough. The overall message of ‘Push’ is the profound love and trust Sarah has for this person, knowing that they will always be there for her through thick and thin.
