McLeod, originally from Adelaide in South Australia, started singing in her late teens. Coming from the unlikely background of a private religious girls high school and a planned career in stockbroking, and with only a few chords and a love of performance (discovered during a holiday with friends in Bali), she formed her first band, originally titled "Hell's Kitchen" which later became The Superjesus. McLeod relased three albums and an E.P. with the Superjesus and after nearly ten years heading up the Aussie rock scene, split with the band in 2004.
In 2005 McLeod launched her solo career, releasing her first single "Let's Get Together" in May, followed by single "Private School Kid" (a duet with Chris Cheney from The Living End) in July. Her first solo album, titled Beauty Was A Tiger (Festival Mushroom Records), was released in September 2005. Sarah McLeod's new band (affectionately known as The Black Diamond Express) consists of Stu Hunter (keyboards), Nick Skelton (drums), Patch Brown (guitar) and Grant Fitzpatrick (bass). All the tracks on this album were written either by Sarah herself or with Chris Peters, bass player with Detroit band Electric Six.
In January and February 2006 Sarah is trying out some solo acoustic gigs around New South Wales, and Queensland and South Australia, playing some songs from Beauty Was A Tiger, some old Superjesus hits and a few random covers.

To steer you back onto course you
Know what to do and what's expected of you
This time you walk the longest line
You paint it right
With every single thing you do
Wish I could say
We never heard it creeping
Ah so silently
What happened yesterday's a mistery to me
Was that a voice?
You thought that you were alone
Truth is she never left when
She said she went home
And you've been calming down
Shifting from your crew
She's been watching you and
Knows your every move
You don't need a white horse
To steer you back onto course you
Know what to do and what's expected of you
This time you walk the longest line
You think about it
And just how it all began
Some people never learn
And don't quite understand
It's true you've been away
But not for all that long
Now all the protocols
Suddenly it's gone
So now you're looking at it
Oh so differently
Your voice is changing
And her eyes, they cannot see
So don't you turn away
There's nowhere else to go
She thinks she's winning but there's
Something she don't know
(Cause) You don't need a white horse
To steer you back onto course you
Know what to do and what's expected of you
This time you walk the longest line
You're gone and I'll go wait on you
Grown up oh so strong it
Happened so fast and baby, it didn't last
This time you walk the longest line
Your strength has built
With every single day you're back
Since that she didn't take this
Sparkle out from your eye
You'd notice where to stand
And where to waltz away
You're growing confidence
Is shining from within
You've got control
(She will see the damage done)
You've got control
(She will see the damage done)
You've got control
(She will see the damage done)
She will see the damage she's done
(Cause) You don't need a white horse
To steer you back onto course you
Know what to do and what's expected of you
This time you walk the longest line
You're gone and I'll go wait on you
Grown up oh so strong it
Happened so fast and baby, it didn't last
This time you walk the longest line
In Sarah McLeod's song "White Horse (Whelan & Scala Mix)," the lyrics paint a picture of someone who is feeling lost and alone, but ultimately finds their way back to themselves. The opening lines suggest that this person may have been looking for a savior or some external force to guide them, but in the end, they realize that they have the strength and wisdom within themselves to take control of their life. The lyrics also allude to a relationship, in which the singer has been mistreated or betrayed. However, they are now standing up for themselves and taking control of the situation.
The song contains a sense of empowerment and confidence as the singer takes ownership of their life and decisions. Throughout the lyrics, there are references to growth and change, highlighting the singer's self-discovery and determination to live a life that aligns with their own expectations, rather than those of others.
Overall, "White Horse (Whelan & Scala Mix)" is a song about resilience, inner strength, and standing up for oneself in the face of adversity.
Line by Line Meaning
You don't need a white horse
You don't need anyone else to save you
To steer you back onto course you
To show you the right path
Know what to do and what's expected of you
You know your responsibilities and duties
This time you walk the longest line
You will have to face the hardest challenges
You paint it right
You handle situations perfectly
With every single thing you do
In every action you take
Wish I could say
I wish I could say the same
The same for those surrounding you
Others should do things as perfectly as you
We never heard it creeping
We did not notice the bad things happening
Ah so silently
Very quietly
What happened yesterday's a mystery to me
I don't understand what happened yesterday
Was that a voice?
Did you hear something?
You thought that you were alone
You believed you were by yourself
Truth is she never left when
In reality, she did not really leave
She said she went home
She told you that she went home
And you've been calming down
You have been getting less angry
Shifting from your crew
Moving away from your friends
She's been watching you and
She has been observing you and
Knows your every move
She knows what you are doing
You think about it
You reflect on it
And just how it all began
And how everything started
Some people never learn
Some people don't improve
And don't quite understand
And don't really comprehend
It's true you've been away
You have been gone for a while
But not for all that long
But not for a very long time
Now all the protocols
Now all the rules and procedures
Suddenly it's gone
Suddenly disappeared
So now you're looking at it
So now you are examining it
Oh so differently
In a completely new way
Your voice is changing
You are speaking differently now
And her eyes, they cannot see
And she does not understand what is happening
So don't you turn away
Don't ignore the situation
There's nowhere else to go
There is no other option
She thinks she's winning but there's
She believes she is succeeding, but
Something she don't know
There is something she does not understand
You're gone and I'll go wait on you
You are gone and I will wait for you
Grown up oh so strong it
Grown up and very strong
Happened so fast and baby, it didn't last
It happened quickly and did not last long
Your strength has built
You have become stronger
With every single day you're back
Since you have returned every day has improved
Since that she didn't take this
Since she did not dim your shine
Sparkle out from your eye
The twinkle in your eye
You'd notice where to stand
You would know where to stand
And where to waltz away
And where to leave without confrontation
You're growing confidence
Your self-assurance is increasing
Is shining from within
Is emanating outwardly
You've got control
You have gained control
(She will see the damage done)
(She will see the consequences of her actions)
She will see the damage she's done
She will understand the harm she has caused
You're gone and I'll go wait on you
You are gone and I will wait for you
Grown up oh so strong it
Grown up and very strong
Happened so fast and baby, it didn't last
It happened quickly and did not last long
This time you walk the longest line
This time your journey will be the most difficult
