Big Boy
Sarah Saint James Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I′m pretty in pink until the day I die
Sugar sweet but rot your teeth if you ain't what I like (yuh)
Strawberries and cream, cause I′m the fancy type
Like oh my, you got on your new tie
Sit at the top of the table, but only your seats high
No lie, I'll sit here for like 5, before I gotta say bye

Knocking on the door, but you're not on my list
N′Your name hasn′t even touched my lips
You were late to the party it's over
And you ain′t gonna be the one

To be the
Big boy
But I'm not your play toy
Enjoy
Your view from the sidе boy
You like it?
Do you like this?
Tell mе you like it

Say you got the bill cause money never tight
Black card, but you only paying for a bite
And if you like the taste I know you gonna wanna slice
Ain′t it funny? You always keeping me close
Don't do commitment, until I sell out a show
Sorry you missed me, just leave your name at the tone

Knocking on the door, but you′re not on my list
N'Your name hasn't even touched my lips
You were late to the party it′s over
And you ain′t gonna be the one

To be the
Big boy
But I'm not your play toy
Enjoy
Your view from the side boy
You like it?
Do you like this?
Tell me you like it

You were late to the party it′s over
And you ain't gonna be the one

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "BIG BOY" by Sarah Saint James explore the themes of power, independence, and control within romantic relationships. The opening lines "I'm pretty in pink until the day I die/Sugar sweet but rot your teeth if you ain't what I like" suggest that Saint James is aware of her own attractiveness and charm, but is also selective with her affections. She likens herself to "strawberries and cream, cause I'm the fancy type," implying that she is drawn to luxury and sophistication. The following lines "Sit at the top of the table, but only your seat's high/No lie, I'll sit here for like 5, before I gotta say bye" suggest that she's in control of the relationship and is willing to end it if her partner doesn't meet her standards.

The chorus of the song is the most powerful, as Saint James sings "To be the big boy/But I'm not your play toy/Enjoy your view from the side boy/You like it? Do you like this? Tell me you like it." Here, she's asserting her independence and making it clear that she's not interested in playing second fiddle to anyone. The lines "Say you got the bill cause money never tight/Black card, but you only paying for a bite/And if you like the taste I know you gonna wanna slice" also underline her desire for someone who can 'treat her right', though the "sorry you missed me, just leave your name at the tone" once again shows her clear-cut expectations.

Overall, "BIG BOY" is an assertive and confident song that explores themes of power and control within intimate relationships. It's a celebration of self-awareness and the pursuit of luxury and sophistication, but also highlights the importance of maintaining independence and not sacrificing one's own standards for anyone else.

I love this song with my entire being. And i tried to show it to my mom... try to give her a glimpse, and she turned it into a lecture about religion. She's not ready to accept and I have to accept shes not at that place. I am me and thats okay.

Regarding the Obesity part of this whole message... The song is amazing, the lyrics are clever BUT a lot of people who are overweight and hate themselves are WAITING for that little bit of inspiration to get down the gym n change their lives. There are some who goto the gym to impress others, some that go for health, but the truth is... if you are healthy > you look better, you feel better are more happy. (Which is why doctors too recommend for so many different forms of depression / disorders).
I've been fat and I was depressed. I've been skinny and I was depressed too, but it wasn't until I looked in the mirror and said........ "God why am I feeling so sorry for myself... people have way bigger problems than me out there, and they're happy, they look after themselves... About time i start taking responsibility for me."

2 weeks of Gym training, my personality was back, I was happy, I was getting compliments already on my achievements. It's ok if some people need a little inspiration to get going, but it's so much faster if in your life you CHOOSE to make yourself better. Self improvement is a choice.

My heart hurts the lyrics are so powerful and hit close to home. As a filmmaker this was a very clever way to create this and very well done, I think it made the song even more powerful.

I literally CANNOT play this some loud enough. After 20+ years of religious trauma I am still deconstructing and this song is everything to me.

@shyannecaward3470

I haven’t found a song that invokes this much of an emotional response in me in so long and I appreciate this so much.
