Don't Worry 'Bout Me
Sarah Vaughan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't worry 'bout me i'll get along
Forget about me just be happy my love

Let's say that our little show is over
And so the story ends
Why not call it a day the sensible way
And still be friends
Look out for yourself
That should be the rule
Give your heart and your love
To whomever you love
Darlin' don't be a fool

Why do we cling to this old faded thing
That used to be so if you can forget
Then don't worry 'bout me

Why should we cling to some old faded thing

That used to be so if you can forget
Then you don't worry 'bout me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sarah Vaughan's song "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" describe a mature understanding between two people who have come to the end of their romantic relationship. The singer is asking the other person to move on from the relationship and not worry about her. Instead, she wants them to be happy and find love with someone else. The use of the word "sensible" implies that they are adults who understand that their relationship has run its course, and being friends is the best option moving forward. The theme of the song is acceptance and letting go of the past, which is emphasized in the lines, "Why should we cling to some old faded thing/That used to be" and "If you can forget/Then you don't worry 'bout me."

The lyrics also address the idea of self-preservation, with the lines "Look out for yourself/That should be the rule/Give your heart and your love/To whomever you love." The singer is encouraging the other person to focus on their own well-being and not waste their love on someone who cannot reciprocate it. The tone is gentle and understanding, which adds to the mature quality of the song.

Overall, the lyrics of "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" are a testament to the power of acceptance and moving on from past relationships, even if it means letting go of someone you once loved.

Sarah Vaughan is love. What a beautiful voice!
