Everything I Have Is Yours
Sarah Vaughan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everything I have is yours
You are part of me
Everything I have is yours
My destiny

I would gladly give the sun to you
If the sun were only mine
I would gladly give this earth to you
And the stars that shine
Everything that I possess
I offer you

Let my dream of happiness
Come true
I'd be happy just to spend my life
Waiting at your beck and call
Everything I have is yours
My life
My all

Everything I have is yours
You are part of me
Everything I have is yours
My destiny

I would gladly give the sun to you
If the sun were only mine
I would gladly give the earth to you
And the stars that shine
Everything that I possess
I offer to you

Let my dream of happiness
Come through
I'd be happy just to spend my life
Waiting at your beck and call
Everything I have is yours

My life
My all

Overall Meaning

The song "Everything I Have Is Yours" by Sarah Vaughan is a beautiful love ballad that expresses deep romantic feelings towards a loved one. The lyrics describe the singer's dedication and unwavering love towards their significant other, emphasizing the depth of their commitment to the relationship. The song begins with a declaration that everything the singer has belongs to their loved one; they are part of the singer and their destiny. This is an expression of total devotion, the idea that the singer's identity is so bound up with their partner that they are inseparable.

The singer then goes on to describe how they would give anything to their loved one, such as the sun or the earth, if they could. This is a hyperbolic expression of the singer's desire to please their partner, even if it means sacrificing everything they have. The song also talks about the singer's dream of happiness, expressing their desire to fulfill their partner's wishes and to devote their life to them. The final line of the song, "My life, my all," reinforces the singer's dedication to their partner, affirming that they are willing to give all they have to make their loved one happy.

@cadrino20978 Oh! you can hear sometimes the brushes:)

@PiotrBarcz

A shame the snare drum wasn't miked better, the brushes from Buddy Rich hardly come through as more than a crackle.

@monicabella7894

Her recording from July 18, 1946 is much better.

@RecycleBin0

didnt hear any drums, was buddy really there?

@jazzcatt

Yes he was. However, all you can hear is the brushes on this upload. The live recordings back in those days were lacking so badly that his brushes sound like 'noise' and you can't hear any other sounds of his drum setup. I also painfully heard that the instruments were very out of tune. But, that's what happened back in those days. You, as an instrumentalist, come in way ahead of on air time. You do a quick tune of your instrument and a sound check (if you were DAMNED lucky) then your instrument sat there waiting for your time to play. As it sits there and acclimatizes to the temperatures and conditions of the room, it falls out of tune. You can't retune because it is old fashioned live radio or TV. And so these poor guys sounded like crap, compared to today's standards. Believe me The musicians knew their instruments would sound like shit but they had no say in those days.
