So Hard
Sass Jordan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I spend the nights holding back holding tight
But it's so hard in your eyes
I'm seein' that you don't notice me
And it's so hard

Well you star when I'm dreamin' in the middle of the night
Tossin' and turning but you never get the message I'm sending out
'Cause if I told you I need you would you think it was right
There's something in my heart that is tellin' me to keep away from him

Love is not too logical
Hearts are not infallible you know
Mine is working overtime
To save me from your eyes save me
I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard

Everyone's saying that I'm wasting all my time
Staring out the window while I'm trying to find
A life I'm searching for
They can me tell me I'm dreaming
They can tell me that I'm blind
Holding here is driving me to
Find away to break my heart in two
Breaking up
Love is not too logical
Hearts are not infallible you know
Mine is working overtime
To save me from your eyes save me
I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard
I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard

I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard
I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard
I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard

I try to tell you goodbye, but it's so hard
I try to live in a lie, but it's so hard

Overall Meaning

In Sass Jordan's song "So Hard," she sings about the difficulty of letting go of someone she loves, even though she knows it's the right thing to do. The first verse provides a glimpse into the struggle she faces every night, trying to hold back and resist the pull of her emotions. The second verse reveals that the person she loves may not even be aware of her feelings, leaving her feeling invisible and alone in her longing. Yet, despite knowing that she should move on, she finds herself incapable of doing so because of her irrational heart. She acknowledges that love doesn't always make sense, and that her heart is fallible, but it still works overtime to keep her holding onto the hope of a future with this person.

The chorus is a repetition of Jordan's internal struggle to say goodbye and move on, but finding it too hard to do so. Each attempt is met with the same overwhelming emotion and internal conflict, leaving her feeling trapped in her feelings. The final verse encapsulates the external pressure she faces as well, with everyone around her telling her that she's wasting her time on a lost cause. But she remains steadfast in her emotional attachment, unable to let go of the hope that someday things might work out with the person she loves.

Overall, "So Hard" is a poignant reflection on the power of the heart to hold us captive, even when our heads know better. It recognizes the complexity of emotions and the challenges of letting go of someone we love, even when it's for the best.

I still remember watching this music video on CBC Video Hits back in the late 80s when I was a teenager. Sass Jordan is so unbelievably underrated, it's truly shocks me how the likes of Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette (who are also Canadian) were able to make it big by breaking into the US market while an amazing vocalist like Sass Jordan didn't. People like trends - even if it is crap. Not saying those artists are crap. Just saying. It's all about the fickle trend of the day. A shame. A lot of really great artists have always been over-looked. And a lot of the lesser ones get the recognition, and attention.
