1) Satan are a heavy metal band originating from Newcastle, England in 1979, known as part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement. The band is considered influential for playing a form of proto-thrash/speed metal that was fairly advanced by the standards of the early 1980s.
Their line-up has undergone a number of personnel changes and even name changes; for a time the band was called Blind Fury, putting out one album, 1985's Out of Reach, under that moniker before reverting to Satan. In 1988, the group changed its name to Pariah, releasing two albums under that name before folding in the early 90s. In 1998, Pariah released another album. The band's shifting line-up has included members of many other heavy metal bands such as Blitzkrieg, Atomkraft, Avenger, Persian Risk, Cronos and Battleaxe. In 1990, Steve Ramsey (guitar) and Graeme English (bass) together with singer Martin Walkyier of UK thrash metal band Sabbat founded folk metal band Skyclad.
Satan performed a one-off gig at Germany's Wacken Open Air in 2004 and finally reunited in 2011. Since their reunion, the band has performed at several European festivals and released a new album, Life Sentence, in April, 2013 via Listenable Records. In 2014 the band increased their global reach by touring in North and South America.
On 2 October 2015 the band released their fourth studio album, Atom by Atom, while two days earlier the entire album was made available for streaming via Invisible Oranges.
In 2018, the band signed a new multi-album recording contract with Metal Blade Records. Their fifth studio album and first under Metal Blade Records, Cruel Magic is due to be released on 7 September 2018. The first single from Cruel Magic, The Doomsday Clock, was released on 6 July.

Blades of Steel
Satan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Many peaceful villages were crushed beneath their hands,
Driven by the power of Lucifer and Thor,
They pillaged and they plundered, took women for their whores,
Blades of steel.
The Vikings sailed to foreign shores, with steel at their command,
Seeking warmth and shelter, they roamed across the land,
He'd guide them through the coming months,
Through winter they'd be safe,
Blades of Steel.
Shining sun warms the earth, autumn time has come,
People gathered in the fields, the summer's almost gone,
By the fireside, they would laugh and dance and sing,
Prepared for anything the winter months would bring,
But soon they would fall by blades of steel.
Blades of steel, ripping through the town,
Blades of steel, tearing you all down,
Blades of steel, put terror in your hearts
Blades of steel, tear the world apart.
The lyrics to Satan's song "Blades of Steel" describe the Vikings' conquests and pillaging in ancient times. The song implies that the Vikings were driven by a combination of demonic and pagan forces, led by the likes of Lucifer and Thor. The Vikings are depicted as having no mercy for their victims, going so far as to take women as their whores. The song uses the image of blades of steel to symbolize the unrelenting nature of the Viking's destruction.
The second stanza recounts the Vikings' travels and their leader, Zandor. Zandor is described as the epitome of bravery and fearlessness, guiding his followers through winter with steel at their command. The song paints a vivid picture of Vikings as a force to be reckoned with, who won't hesitate to take what they want through the power of their blades.
The final stanza takes a different turn, painting a contrasting image of a peaceful community enjoying their last days of summer, preparing for the winter. The song's final line delivers a fatalistic punch, indicating that all their preparations would be in vain, as they would fall by the blades of steel.
Overall, the song depicts the Vikings as a powerful and destructive force, fueled by both demonic and pagan beliefs, stopping at nothing to achieve their goals.
