A Million Drums
Satellites Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Get on my feet I don’t know why
Close the door behind
Ear breaking silence under foot
A million drums in unison beating as one
Bolt of blue lightning splits the air Erasing all before
Stops me in my tracks, splits me in two
Boy runs away and turns to me
Smiles and runs into the night
I try to run, I can’t keep up
A million drums in unison beating as one
All I know and all I see runs away in front of me
north is south, west is east, pull the rug from underneath
All I know and all I see runs away in front of me
north is south, west is east, pull the rug from underneath
These lyrics are describing a sudden and inexplicable feeling of disorientation and confusion. The bell chimes, leading the singer to stand up, but they are unsure why. They close the door behind them, which leads to a deafening silence. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning appears, erasing everything in its path. The experience is overwhelming to the point where it seems to split the singer in two. Then a boy appears and runs off into the night, leaving the singer feeling unable to keep up. All the while, there are a million drums beating in unison.
