World at Your Feet
Satellites Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I wouldn't say you were sent from fire below
You shout jump all around you stare
And jump anyway it's easier that way
You got mountains brought to your door
By just walking across a floor
Flashing the eyes at the biggest prize
Credit check just in case
I bet you kick it away
Nothing surprises me when it comes to you
You got the world at your feet
You say it's not the right shape
And needs more glittering lights
When gravity comes knocking at your door
And dragging your fine assets to the floor
The clapped hands are gonna echo round
Ladies and gentlemen next up we got a
Vintage from yesteryear going once twice
Perfect for your holidays?
You got the world at your feet
I bet you kick it away
Nothing surprises me when it comes to you
You got the world at your feet
You say it's not the right shape
And needs more glittering lights
The lyrics of Satellites' song "World at Your Feet" seem to be a commentary on the privileged and entitled attitude of some people who seem to take their advantages for granted. The opening lines suggest that the subject of the song is not necessarily far away or otherworldly, but nevertheless stands apart from the world in some fundamental way, perhaps as a result of their wealth or status. The next lines describe the person as somewhat capricious, encouraging others to jump even though they don't seem to take any real risks themselves. The reference to "mountains brought to your door" implies that this person has boundless resources and opportunities available to them without ever having to leave their comfort zone.
The chorus of the song reinforces the idea that this person has everything they could ever want, but doesn't appreciate it, and in fact actively rejects it. They are so accustomed to their circumstances that they find it hard to be impressed by anything, and are always looking for more. This idea is reinforced in the second verse, where the person is described as needing constant validation and attention, and tends to treat people like objects that can be bought and sold. The reference to "clapped hands" and auctioneering adds a touch of irony and satire to the song, suggesting that this person's excessive materialism is so over-the-top as to become ridiculous.
Despite the cynical tone of the lyrics, the song itself is quite upbeat and energetic, with a driving rhythm and catchy hooks. This contrast between the lyrics and the music creates an interesting tension that makes the song more engaging and memorable. Overall, "World at Your Feet" is an incisive critique of the contemporary culture of wealth and celebrity, and a reminder that material success does not necessarily lead to happiness or fulfillment.

As a machinist, i built the frame that the camera's were mounted to on these spy satellite's! That was on a tape controlled machining center back then! One broken tap would junk the entire 6 ft piece!

My first real machine shop job was at a place called "Tapemation." There were still, no longer used, tape reels close to some of the old HSK 5 axis machines.

Dad worked on this program for years, first from Sunnyvale, then from Vandenberg AFB.
Love hearing outside accounts of what he was FINALLY able to talk about with us (his family) just a few years ago following declassification... just to work on the program, he had to have his wife/my mom vetted for a Top Secret clearance (even though he still wasn't supposed to talk about it, lol)!
Thanks, Amy!
