Glória
Sau Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tothom sap quan arriba,

Molt sovint oblides
que prop d'aquí tens el mar.
Pot ser una bona sortida
per si mai vols marxar.

Però ara és molt tard...

I en travessar el pont de Brooklyn,
Manhattan et sembla un gegant.
Mm sento sol molt lluny de casa
on tu m'estàs esperant.

Però ara és molt tard...

Però ara és molt tard...

Overall Meaning

The song Gloria by Sau is a commentary on the deceptive nature of American dreams and the harsh realities that often come with it. The opening lines describe a tired and overworked society that is easily fooled by false promises of success. The lyrics suggest that people are hiding behind their car windows, trying to forget their problems and stress, but it is ultimately futile. The neon lights blind them, and smoke fills the streets, symbolizing the pollution and corruption that come with urbanization. The song highlights that the dream of the American dream is not always what it seems, and although people may know when it arrives, they never know when it will be taken away.

The second verse is a depiction of the seedy underbelly of American life. The sound of a metallic jukebox playing blues music creates an atmosphere of loneliness and despair. The bar is about to close, and there are only a few women available for companionship. The bodies of these women have been mistreated, and they are now seeking solace in a fleeting moment of intimacy. The lyrics suggest that these encounters can be bought with a kiss, and their bodies are damaged in the pursuit of their desires. There is also an allusion to the drug trade, with offers of cocaine serving as a means of escape from the harsh realities of life.

The last part of the song suggests that while it may be too late to change one's circumstances, there is still a glimmer of hope. The singer is far away from home, crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, and feeling alone. Yet, he holds on to the thought that someone is waiting for him back home. The lyrics suggest that even though it may be too late to change everything, there is always a chance for redemption and renewal.
