After forming under the name Sefler in 1994, Saves the Day signed with the independent hardcore punk label Equal Vision and released their debut studio album in 1998. It was followed by Through Being Cool (1999), which featured their first single, "Shoulder to the Wheel." Stay What You Are was released in 2001, peaking at number 100 on the Billboard 200. It spawned two successful music videos on MTV2, for the singles "At Your Funeral" and "Freakish", and has since sold 300,000 copies. After the success, Saves the Day signed to Dreamworks Records, who co-released their next studio album, In Reverie, with Vagrant Records. Bye Bye Baby
Saves the Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You know I'm never coming home
For any reason I should call
Don't pick up the phone
Just Know
I'll love you from a'far and that is all
You know as well as I were both alone
[Chorus]
So bye bye baby our love can't save you
So bye bye baby
Bye bye baby doll
Theres light houses there out in the lawn
The police in the parking lot
Every time I wake
You're gone
I'll love you from a'far and that is all
You know as well as I were both alone
[Chorus]
Don't pick up the phone
Just know
I'll love you from a'far and that is all
You know as well as I were both alone
My heart my love it died so long ago
[Chorus x4]
Bye bye baby
Bye bye bye
Bye!
The song "Bye Bye Baby" by Saves the Day is a heart-wrenching portrayal of a shattered relationship, as the singer sings goodbye to his lover and resigns himself to the fact that they can never be together again. The lyrics suggest that the couple has been struggling for a long time and that their love has failed to save them. The lines "You know I'm never coming home / For any reason I should call / Don't pick up the phone / Just know" depict the finality of their breakup and the singer's attempt to distance himself from his former partner.
The song's refrain "So bye bye baby, our love can't save you" repeats the message of the song that their love was not enough to save them, and that they must go their separate ways. The lyrics also suggest that the singer's lover may have run away or been taken away, as evidenced by the lines "Theres lighthouses there out in the lawn / The police in the parking lot / Every time I wake / You're gone". The singer is left alone, mourning the loss of their relationship and lamenting that his heart died long ago.
Overall, "Bye Bye Baby" is a melancholic yet powerful track, with emotionally resonant lyrics and a haunting melody. It conveys the pain and regret of a failing relationship, and the sadness of parting ways with a loved one.
