After forming under the name Sefler in 1994, Saves the Day signed with the independent hardcore punk label Equal Vision and released their debut studio album in 1998. It was followed by Through Being Cool (1999), which featured their first single, "Shoulder to the Wheel." Stay What You Are was released in 2001, peaking at number 100 on the Billboard 200. It spawned two successful music videos on MTV2, for the singles "At Your Funeral" and "Freakish", and has since sold 300,000 copies. After the success, Saves the Day signed to Dreamworks Records, who co-released their next studio album, In Reverie, with Vagrant Records. O
Saves the Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The love I need is inside of me
As I look to you now
Vow and confess
You're the light in my eyes
Of all the things that I've said
Of all the things I'll never get back
Is walking away
When you needed me here
And I could see it in your eyes
You were blind to see me
You see the man I used to be
Of course I say to myself
"I lost my way refusing your help"
But here inside all along
Waiting for you
To come home to yourself
So now it's just you and me
And yesterday is gone we agree
As we open our arms
Up to the sun
See the rain now is gone
In "O" by Saves the Day, the singer reflects on a past relationship, with a sense of regret and realization of what was missing then. He starts by acknowledging that he is finally coming to terms with the fact that the love he needed was always within himself. He then addresses his former partner, confessing that they were the light in his eyes, someone he relied on. The singer then contemplates the things he would have done differently if he had the chance, admitting that walking away was a mistake.
The singer realizes that his former partner never really saw him as he was, but saw only the man he used to be. He then laments that he had lost his way and refused to accept help when he needed it. By the end of the song, he acknowledges that everything he needed was there all along, and that he was just waiting for his former partner to come home to herself. Yesterday is gone, and they can now move on together, opening their arms up to the sun and letting the past be washed away by the rain.
This song is an emotional reflection on relationships, and the mistakes and realizations that come with them. It highlights the importance of self-love and forgiveness, and the role they play in building and maintaining relationships.
