A Hard Way To Go
Savoy Brown Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ain't got time for doubts or fears
Ain't got time for shallow tears
Ain't got time to bare my soul
Because I still got a hard way to go
Said that you got a losing hand
Ain't no point in you raising sand
Because I still got a hard way to go
And it's a crying shame
That you can't lay the blame
On anybody else but yourself
Wish that you had my sympathy
You ain't got no hold on me
And my heart is getting cold
And I still got a hard way to go
And it's a crying shame
That you can't lay the blame
On anybody else but yourself
And I still got a hard way to go
The lyrics to Savoy Brown's song "Hard Way to Go" is a reflection of the singer's maturity and resilience in the midst of adversity. The singer is depicted as someone who is running out of time for doubt or tears and they don't have the luxury to share their innermost thoughts and feelings. The reason for this is that they have a long way to go, and they need all their strength and resources to face the obstacles ahead. The song taps into universal themes of perseverance and resilience, which make it a timeless and relatable classic.
In the second stanza, the singer advises someone who has a losing hand not to waste time raising sand or seeking pity. Again, the same message is reiterated, that there is time to deal with personal issues and emotional baggage. The choice of words such as "ain't got time," "crying shame," and "my heart is getting cold" adds an air of urgency to the song. The lyrics also suggest that the singer has faced countless setbacks and disappointments, but they refuse to let it get the best of them.

The opening cut from one of my 10 favorite Rock LP's of all time.
This would have turned me into a die-hard Savoy Brown fan...
...except that from listening to some of their other stuff I found out that they had never made an LP this good before, and they never did again...
...and then they turned into Foghat.
But this LP Is right up there with "Who's Next," "The Royal Scam," and seven others on that list.

Hey man you must check out Street Corner Talking and Hellbound Train different singer but ranks up there IMHO

Chris Youldon went solo, and the rest of the band became a hairband for awhile. I think Dave, "lonesom Dave Peveret" started Foghat?

Now I understand, thanks for the explanation.
Didn't that LP also have his two subsequent hits, "Answering Machine," and "Him?"
I thought both of those were rather good, especially the second one.
