You Need Love
Savoy Brown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You know I love you
You know it's true
Give you all my love, babe
What more can I do?
Walking by myself
I hope you'll understand
I just want to be your lovin' man
I love ya, yes I love you
With my heart and soul
I wouldn't mistreat you
For my weight in gold
You know I love you
You know it's true
Give you all my love, babe
What more can I do?
Walking by myself
I hope you'll understand
I just want to be your lovin' man
Here we go!
Keep on walkin'!
You know I love you
You know it's true
I give you all my, babe
What more can I do?
I'm walking by myself
I hope you'll understand
I just want to be your lovin' man
I said I'm walking by myself
I hope you'll understand
I just want to be your lovin'
I just want to be your lovin'

I just want to be your lovin' man
That's right.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Savoy Brown's You Need Love express the desire of the singer to love and be loved in return. The opening verse declares the depth of the singer's love for the recipient, assuring them that it is true and sincere. The singer promises to give all their love to the recipient, and inquires if there is anything else they can do to show this love.

The following verse shows the singer standing alone, but hoping the recipient will understand that they only want to be their loving partner. This sentiment is repeated in the chorus, where the singer acknowledges their love again and offers it completely, but also reiterates their desire to be wanted and beloved by the recipient. They want to be the recipient's "lovin' man."

The final verse follows a brief musical interlude, where the singer once more pleads for understanding, stating that they simply wish to be loved and that they hope the recipient will accept their love. The song ends on this note, with the singer hopeful but unsure of the recipient's feelings.

Overall, the lyrics of You Need Love portray a vulnerable yet confident speaker who is willing to offer themselves completely to a potential lover, but is also hesitant and uncertain of how their feelings will be received. The repetition of phrases like "You know I love you" and "What more can I do?" emphasize the singer's sincerity, while the repeated plea for understanding and acceptance reveal their insecurity and longing for validation.

Chris Youlden is one of the greatest white blues singer to ever pick up a microphone. Loved his voice and live stage presence with this band.

Lou Costello

Best Blues singer. Period.

@Lou Costello I'll give you 2nd best! For me, no one could touch Peter Green, both vocally AND guitar! That's not to take anything away from Chris Youlden, who was also brilliant!! The great British blues boom of the late '60s is one of my favourite eras. Some of the greatest music of all time was made then. And on the subject of Savoy Brown, their "Train to Nowhere" is way up there as one of THE all time greats!!

Wallingtin Minge

Very underrated band. Especially Youlden.. This lineup was the best.
