JUDGEMENT DAY
Saxon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't need your religion
It ain't nothin' to me
I don't want nobody pushin'
Need to be free

You've got to hit hard
I've seen those demons fall
I'm savin' my soul for the final goal

But that day is comin', yeah
The judgement is here
Look over your shoulder
The judgement is here

I don't need nobody knockin'
Knockin' on my door
I don't need nobody sellin'
Sellin' me no more

You're always on the take
All your silly faith
I'm savin' my soul, savin' my soul

I can feel it in the breeze
It's blowin' through the trees
You can see it in the sky
It makes you wonder why

I can feel it in the breeze
It's blowin' through the trees
Through the trees

I don't need your religion
It ain't nothin' to me
I don't want nobody pushin'
Need to be free

I've seen your
I've seen those dreams fall
I'm savin' my soul for rock and roll

But that day is comin', yeah
The judgement is here
Look over your shoulder
The judgement is here

The judgement is here
The judgement is here
The judgement is here
Judgement, judgement, judgement

Judgement day, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Saxon's Judgement Day convey rejection of religious pressure and the need for personal freedom while saving one's soul. The first stanza declares that the singer does not need anyone's religion, does not want to be pushed, and will not allow anyone to take away his freedom. The following lines suggest that the singer has faced and defeated demons, and that he is keeping himself strong to achieve his ultimate goal: saving his soul. The chorus asserts that the judgement day is coming and that everyone needs to be wary of it.

The second stanza continues to reject the idea of religious knocking and selling, and implies that the singer sees those kinds of beliefs as shallow and greedy. He decides that he wants to save his soul for rock and roll, implying that music is his true religion. The repeated lines that say 'I can feel it in the breeze' and the follow-up lines that describe seeing it in the sky are possibly referring to the judgement day coming closer. The last stanza repeats the notions of personal freedom and rejection of external beliefs and adds a line that indicates that the singer has already seen other people's dreams fall.

Overall, Saxon's Judgement Day is a song about personal sovereignty, freedom and faith in oneself, while rejecting religious pressure and commercialism. The chorus repeats three times, emphasizing the inevitability and seriousness of judgement day.

THAT BASS!!!

Enmet

This track in particular from their first album is an absolute epitome of 'new wave of British heavy metal'. The punk-like attitude and speed combined with the heaviness and groove of blues music. Add to that the progressive parts such as the calm interlude and the much more aggressive blues coda.

Their debut album may not be their best, but with songs like this and "Backs to the Wall", they managed to provide text-book examples of what heavy metal is!

Eric Rivera

That riff could last an eternity!

TheHumbuckerboy

Actually sounds like a wonderful mixture of Hendrix and The Mahavishnu Orchestra towards the end of the song ! 😃
