Say Hi To Your Mom (presently Say Hi) is a Seattle-based, indie-pop/lo-fi rock group. Formed by Eric Elbogen in Brooklyn 2002, Say Hi's albums are mostly recorded at Elbogen's home, with him playing a majority of the instruments and providing vocals.
On tour, friends accompany Elbogen as his backing band.
Their fourth release, Impeccable Blahs, was written almost entirely about vampires, though Star Trek is also mentioned. The song "Angels and Darlas" is a reference to Angel and Darla from the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel both created by Joss Whedon.
With the release of their fifth album The Wishes and the Glitch, the band shortened their name to "Say Hi".This was done because the earlier name reflected an aesthetic that no longer matched the band's tastes.
Elbogen's lyrics are noted as being one of the band's strengths.

The chamber maid: she snores
The drummer's gone to tune up all her toms
I laid my head down and now my wallet's gone
Hooplas involving circus tricks
At addresses way out in the sticks
The pixies in tight green little skirts say it's so much better now that is hurts
She touched my knee and that made me quiver
Winks with her eye, 3.14 (pi)
Is there anyone who knows the whole thing?
It's loaded with references when the mime speaks about the biz
We asked him for a glass that might be clean
But he's too busy posing for fashion 'zines
Hooplas involving circus tricks
At addresses way out in the sticks
The pixies in tight green little skirts say it's so much better now that is hurts
The tides that pull you down in the river
She touched my knee and that made me quiver
Winks with her eye, 3.14 (pi)
Is there anyone who knows the whole thing?
Hooplas involving circus tricks
At addresses way out in the sticks
The pixies in tight green little skirts say it's so much better now that is hurts
The tides that pull you down in the river
She touched my knee and that made me quiver
Winks with her eye, 3.14 (pi)
Is there anyone, is there anyone?
Hooplas involving circus tricks
At addresses way out in the sticks
The pixies in tight green little skirts say it's so much better now that is hurts
The tides that pull you down in the river
She touched my knee and that made me quiver
Winks with her eye, 3.14 (pi)
Is there anyone who knows the whole thing?
The song opens with a scene of boredom and claustrophobia, with the singer expressing a sense of confined discomfort. The mention of the chamber maid snoring juxtaposes with the drummer tuning her toms, creating a sense of contrasting sounds that add to the discordance of the scene. The singer then lays his head down, only to wake up and find that his wallet has been stolen. From there, the scene shifts to the titular hooplas involving circus tricks. The lyrics describe the event as being located way out in the sticks, with pixies in tight green little skirts adding to the surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. The singer is taken by the woman he's with, who touches his knee and makes him "quiver", implying a romantic or sexual attraction. The reference to pi at the end is unclear, leaving the listener wondering what the "whole thing" is.
