“A monochrome of sound and art that fails the criteria of mediocrity.”
Over the years, this phrase has defined the music of Saydie, a five piece rock band formed in April 2003. Indeed, the band is best known for being pioneers in female fronted heavy music in the Philippines, with their debut self-titled album being one of the first to showcase a unique take on the genre in the local music scene of their home country. Over time, Saydie’s raw, aggressive and authentic approach to their music has earned them a huge and dedicated following.
In the 2010s, Saydie has managed to stand the test of time and continuously evolve its sound. This evolution is apparent with the band’s upcoming second album “Belita” from which the singles “Austine”, “Heather’s Prayer” and “Onyx” have been released – the first two singles gathering over 100,000 views on YouTube combined and the latter single topping the Rakista Radio charts for three consecutive weeks. Now a stronger band than ever, Saydie continues to aspire to greater heights of musical expression and success, with mediocrity being ever absent from the band’s vocabulary.
Saydie is Kat Taylor, Josh Madrid, Kurt Corpus, Monx Arguelles and Karl Kliatchko.

So many sins upon your self
So many sins upon me
I am pacified by fear
You are a sign of my end
This fear of being deceased closer and
Why do I die? why?
Your curse over me
Why over me? why?
Damien, Damien, Damien, Damien.
Pluck me out before I burn
Pluck me out before I weep
Pluck me out I'm in hell
Should have never shown your soul
I should have never seen it
Now you come
Closer and closer it never stops
Closer, why do you have to come?
Why do I die? why?
Your curse over me
Why over me? why?
Damien, Damien, Damien, Damien.
You drown me in the fire
Stitch me with your wire
Now you wanna take my life away
Now you wanna snatch my dreams
This world you've created Each building is a temple of sin 2x
You are a temple of sin 2x
Damien, Damien, Damien, Damien
The song "Damien" by Saydie is a haunting portrayal of the fear and despair the singer feels as a result of their interaction with someone named Damien. The lyrics suggest that Damien has committed numerous sins, both against themselves and the world at large. The singer is trapped in a state of fear, both of what Damien might do to them and of the imminent approach of death. They want to be saved from the situation, but feel unable to escape the curse that Damien has placed upon them.
The repeated refrain of "Damien, Damien, Damien, Damien" serves to emphasize the overwhelming presence of this evil figure within the singer's life. The lyrics create a sense of foreboding and inevitability, as though Damien's arrival is an inescapable fate. The singer's use of the second person when addressing Damien ("You are a sign of my end", "Your curse over me", "Now you wanna take my life away") creates a sense of personal connection between them and Damien, as though the two are inexorably linked.
Overall, "Damien" is a powerful portrayal of fear and despair in the face of evil. The lyrics are deeply introspective, and bring to mind questions about the nature of sin and redemption. The ominous, haunting tone of the music serves to amplify the sense of dread conveyed in the lyrics.
