โA monochrome of sound and art that fails the criteria of mediocrity.โ
Over the years, this phrase has defined the music of Saydie, a five piece rock band formed in April 2003. Indeed, the band is best known for being pioneers in female fronted heavy music in the Philippines, with their debut self-titled album being one of the first to showcase a unique take on the genre in the local music scene of their home country. Over time, Saydieโs raw, aggressive and authentic approach to their music has earned them a huge and dedicated following.
In the 2010s, Saydie has managed to stand the test of time and continuously evolve its sound. This evolution is apparent with the bandโs upcoming second album โBelitaโ from which the singles โAustineโ, โHeatherโs Prayerโ and โOnyxโ have been released โ the first two singles gathering over 100,000 views on YouTube combined and the latter single topping the Rakista Radio charts for three consecutive weeks. Now a stronger band than ever, Saydie continues to aspire to greater heights of musical expression and success, with mediocrity being ever absent from the bandโs vocabulary.
Saydie is Kat Taylor, Josh Madrid, Kurt Corpus, Monx Arguelles and Karl Kliatchko.

Ignore the marks that evil has left behind
They starve, you bloat
They die and still you bloat
And yet the people wait
The people are waiting
Watch the water and let it guide you
Die, follow the water
Die, follow the water
Die, follow the water
Die, follow the water.
Choking like your fucker
They choke on bones that you left behind
They starve, you bloat
They lifted you up
How can they wait
You've eaten the children
Watch the water and let it guide you
Watch the water and let it kill you
Die, follow the water
Die, follow the water
Die, follow the water
Die, follow the water
Heads are rolling down your golden stairs
Can you come closer to them
Die
Die
Die
Die
Die
Die
Heads are rolling down your golden stairs
Tell me, does your bitch need another ring or they die
Heads are rolling down your golden stairs
Tell me, does your bitch need another ring or they die
Heads are rolling down your golden stairs
Tell me, does your bitch need another ring or they die
Heads are rolling down your golden stairs
Tell me, does your bitch need another ring or they die
I hope you fucking die
The lyrics to Saydie's song Famous are mysterious and ominous. The first verse presents a metaphor of a spider, which is often associated with deception and cunningness. The line "Ignore the marks that evil has left behind" suggests that the subject of the song has committed some kind of wrongdoing or has been involved in something shady in the past. The next two lines, "They starve, you bloat/They die and still you bloat" seem to criticize someone who is benefiting from the suffering of others, ignoring their plight while they themselves flourish. However, the final line of the verse, "And yet the people wait," suggests that there may be a sense of ambivalence or even admiration towards this person, who seems to have some kind of hold over the people.
The chorus, which is repeated twice, tells the listener to "Watch the water and let it guide you/Watch the water and let it kill you" and to "Die, follow the water." Water is often used in literature and art as a symbol of cleansing, but also of danger and uncertainty. In this context, it seems to be a call to submission - to let go of control and let fate take its course. The second verse continues the theme of domination and abuse, with lines like "You've eaten the children" and "They lifted you up/How can they wait." The repetition of "Die, follow the water" reinforces this idea of surrendering to fate.
The final lines of the song are particularly harsh and direct: "Heads are rolling down your golden stairs/Tell me, does your bitch need another ring or they die/I hope you fucking die." The imagery of heads rolling down golden stairs suggests a violent and gruesome end, and the mention of a "bitch" and a ring implies that the subject of the song is a wealthy and powerful figure who may be exploiting and discarding people for their own gain.
Overall, the lyrics to Famous are cryptic and open to interpretation, but they convey a sense of anger and resentment towards someone who is abusing their power and exploiting others.
