The Awakening
Sayyadina Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No code of honor
She must hit first.
Hit and run
Nobody saves the one who sits alone and waits
A flow of energy
He's insignificant, soon to be nonexistent
An itching rash, a scab to pick
The inevitable truth:
Better to be the butcher than the lamb
The lyrics to Sayyadina's song "The Awakening" speak to the idea of taking control of one's own destiny, rather than waiting for someone else to make the first move. The line "Can't wait too long" suggests a sense of urgency and the need to act quickly. The phrase "no code of honor" implies that there will be no fair play or mercy in this confrontation. The singer in the song is a woman who must "hit first" and then make a quick getaway ("hit and run").
The lines "Nobody saves the one who sits alone and waits" and "He's insignificant, soon to be nonexistent" suggest that waiting for someone else to take action is a passive and ultimately futile tactic. Instead, the singer must be proactive and use her energy to assert herself. The lines "an itching rash, a scab to pick" create a vivid image of something irritating and persistent that must be dealt with.
Finally, the lyrics state that "the inevitable truth" is that it is better to be the aggressor ("the butcher") than to be passive and be victimized ("the lamb"). Overall, the song seems to be about the importance of taking control and being proactive in order to achieve one's goals and protect oneself.
