Terminal Earth
Scanner Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Our mission is done
And our time has come
All the stars are calling us back

But we can't leave
Ever again
Our starship won't start anymore
Never again
Will we see our home
Never again our system
Our bodies have changed
And if we approached
Disintegration would start

Terminal Earth caught in a trap
Now we are caught
Terminal Earth caught in a trap
Can we survive
Terminal Earth caught in a trap
Now we are caught
Now we can save our minds and our hope
Can we survive on
Terminal Earth

We came to prove
And to research
To tell people all about Earth

We've been so sure
We'd leave again
Now we are filled with despair

Forced to deal
With your life and your fears
Of poisoned waters and air
Afraid of death
In a nuclear war
Our journey has come to an end

On Terminal Earth caught in a trap
Now we are caught
Terminal Earth caught in a trap
Can we survive
Terminal Earth caught in a trap
Now we are caught
Now we can save our minds and our hope

Can we survive on
Terminal Earth

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Scanner's song Terminal Earth convey a sense of despair and hopelessness as a group of space explorers find themselves stranded on Earth with no immediate means of leaving. The opening lines, "Our mission is done, and our time has come, all the stars are calling us back," suggest that the group has completed their research on Earth and are ready to return home to their own star system. However, the lyrics quickly take a darker turn with the realization that "our starship won't start anymore" and the group is trapped on Earth indefinitely.

The lyrics emphasize the irreversible changes that have occurred to the explorers while on Earth that prevent them from returning home. "Our bodies have changed and if we approached, disintegration would start" suggests that they have been contaminated by Earth's toxic environment to a degree that makes them incompatible with their own star system. This realization is further underscored by the repeated refrain of "Never again will we see our home, never again our system." The chorus captures the bleakness of their situation: "Terminal Earth caught in a trap, now we are caught, can we survive?"

The song speaks to the fragility of Earth's ecosystem and the urgent need for humans to take action to prevent its destruction. The explorers' mission was to research Earth and educate others about it, but they are now forced to confront the harsh reality of environmental degradation and the very real possibility of nuclear war. The final lines suggest that there may still be hope for humanity if we can save our minds and our hope.

man hyper Trace is great. But this is my all-time favorite scanner album. The guitar crunch on this and the vocals just kill. Both albums are a must have!

@gremlinjr2 hey gremlin, just checked out Talon's Vicious Game album-excellent Teutonic metal, well done quite impressive! I was hugely into Accept-first got into them with their Breaker album-then of course the classics that followed. And this album would have stood tall right next to stuff like Restless and Wild! I would have wore out the grooves to this... Thanks man 👍🤘😎
