Violence Is Golden
Scanners Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A flawless disease
Invisible chain
Oh lover, scream out my name
Your spiraling song
Your tortured refrain
Your brainwaves crashing on the shore
You had my all but needed more
Your violence is golden
Nail the purple heart to your door
A conflict of souls, a beautiful war
But, is it this pain I adore?
Across the hot coals, I crawl on your floor
The rhythm of your breaking heart
Crashing as you fall apart
Longing for a brand new start
Your violence is golden
Begging for a mercy killing
Death gives way to new beginnings now
The lyrics to Scanners's song "Violence Is Golden" suggest that love can be both beautiful and painful at the same time. The line "Love is red sheets of pain" seems to imply that the intense feelings of love can manifest themselves physically, almost like a painful illness. The next line, "A flawless disease," suggests that this experience of love is both perfect and yet inherently flawed. The metaphor of an "invisible chain" further suggests that love can be both binding and limiting.
The second verse seems to focus more on the intensity of the romantic relationship itself, particularly the dynamic of power and control in the relationship. The lines "But, is it this pain I adore? Across the hot coals, I crawl on your floor" suggest that the singer is willing to endure physical pain in order to be with their lover. The "conflict of souls, a beautiful war" suggests that the relationship is both combative and captivating. The repetition of the phrase "Your violence is golden" throughout the song further emphasizes the idea that the intensity and unpredictability of love can be both beautiful and dangerous.
Overall, the lyrics to "Violence Is Golden" seem to be exploring the idea that love can be a kind of addiction or sickness, one that is both all-consuming and incredibly destructive.
