BECAUSE OF YOU
Scanty Sandwich Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You don't stop
You don't stop
I remember when I saw you, baby
You're looking real cool and sexy
You got me wondering if you saw me maybe
Oh yeah, babe
Everything you're doing's got me
Changing my mood
I got a new attitude
That's saying something for me
'Cause I was that girl
Standing alone
Watching every move you make
Wishing you would take me home
Because of you I've no sense of time
I'm losing my mind, I've left the little girl behind
Because of you the woman in me is setting me free, yeah
Living out my fantasy because of you
Do you thing there was
A chance that we could get together?
The kind of loving that could last forever
Come rain or shine, no matter what the weather
Oh yeah, babe
Wondering it's time
I should be making my move
I really wanna get you into my grove
Come and see me I got something to prove
'Cause I was that girl
Quiet and shy
Scared to say a word to you
Hoping I would catch your eye
Because of you I've no sense of time
I'm losing my mind, I've left the little girl behind
Because of you the woman in me is setting me free
Living out my fantasy because of you
'Cause I was that girl
Standing alone
Watching every move you make
Wishing you would take me home
Because of you
I've made my move
Because of you
I'm feeling free
Because of you I've no sense of time
I'm losing my mind, I've left the little girl behind
Because of you the woman in me is setting you free
Living out my fantasy
Because of you I've no sense of time
I'm losing my mind, I've left the little girl behind

Because of you the woman in me is setting me free
Living out my fantasy because of you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Scanty Sandwich's "Because of You" describe the transformative power of love and attraction. The singer remembers seeing the object of her affection for the first time and being struck by their sexiness and coolness. Everything they do affects her mood and attitude, which is a departure for her because she used to be quiet and shy. The singer expresses her desire to be with this person and wonders if they could have a lasting love that endures any kind of weather.

The chorus of the song repeats the line "Because of you" several times, emphasizing the idea that this person has changed the singer's life in significant ways. She has become a more confident and adventurous person because of the way this person makes her feel. The song's bridge encourages the listener to come and see the singer because she has something to prove โ€“ presumably that she is worthy of the person's love and attention.

Overall, "Because of You" is a song about the power of attraction and how it can transform a person's life. It is about finding the courage to pursue what you want and being willing to take risks for love.

Da Funk by Daft Punk has a killer acid line that took me forever to reproduce. Finally got it with a bit of help, and it's almost perfect aside from the last note, which has characteristics that I assume were altered with software after recording.

303s are super fun as toys, but I've never had any luck incorporating acid lines into tracks. The sound has been done to death, and given the limitations of the hardware, there's really only so much you can do with it unless you're really dedicated. The only impressive sounding patches I've ever managed to put together were rip-offs of other peoples' work. My original creations always sound super generic, like something you'd find in a shitty 303 sample pack.

But, if you're willing to geek out and put the time in, no doubt you'll eventually tinker your way into something awesome that you can build a track around... I'm just not passionate enough about the sound any more to invest the required time. It was a different story in the '90s, when tools were limited and the acid sound was fresh, but these days I exclusively use software for work, hardware for decoration, taking up space in closets and occasionally stubbing toes.

I really miss the infinitely more engaging, improvisational and tactile process of working with hardware though. Despite their inherently restrictive nature, hardware-based studios still feel like magical places of endless possibility to me, while my laptop, which is in fact essentially devoid of restrictions, often feels like more like an incredibly restrictive inspiration vacuum.

Anyway, have fun with it, and let us know if you come up with anything cool!

This is my friend Richard Marshall (Scanty). If you want to know what he is up to, myself and him run a vinyl only Club night In Tunbridge Wells called "Boogie Nights" at the Tunbridge Wells Forum. We are in our third year and the place is packed to the rafters every time, and it goes OFF.
Come and joing us for our monthly party there, a vinyl only set of Funk, Soul, DIsco, Hip Hop and Classic House trax. Expect plenty of JB's, James Brown, Stax, Chic, Grandmaster Flash, Erik B, KRS 1, 80's Electro, Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk and lots moreโ€ฆ

I simply don't know why I love this song so much. There's just something about it that's impossible to describe in (English) words. Best regards.

@zedkool2579

It's a very heartbreaking track but the infectious beat sees a smile beyond the tears.

A classic. This is the record that got me hooked on breaks back in 2000. I just happened to be walking through the breaks room at a warehouse party when this track was mixing in and stopped me in my tracks. Spent the rest of the night and majority of the next four or five years in the breaks room, whether djing or partying. It took me roughly a year to ID the track though; the internet was in its infancy at the time, so the only two ways to ID a track were to happen across the record in the shop or to go trainspotting when another dj was playing it.

Why do so many people seem to think Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook produced this? He's co-owner of the Southern Fried label, but the track was produced by Scanty.
