He has been a solo artist since 1991, becoming one of the most popular southern rappers in the business although maintaining ties to the Geto Boys. He is known for his sometimes unique and exaggerated voice and rapping technique.

Recording as Akshen, he began his career recording solo for Rap-A-Lot Records, a local label in Houston, Texas. In the late 1980s, he joined the Geto Boys as they were forming and released We Can't Be Stopped, a highly successful LP that garnered the Geto Boys a large fanbase, in spite of their ultra-violent lyrics keeping them far from radio and MTV. Akshen changed his name to Scarface (he even changed his flow from a rapid-fire Kool G Rap-like delivery to normal flow, this time with a darker tone), after the film Scarface, saying he felt that the main character of the movie was just like him in many ways. Scarface soon released his debut solo album, Mr. Scarface Is Back. The album was a success, and Scarface's popularity soon overshadowed the other Geto Boys.

Scarface left the group and released a series of solo albums that kept him in the public view in spite of decreasing sales. He turned this around with 2000's Last of a Dying Breed, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sales, and earned him Lyricist of the Year at the Source Awards. In 2002 he released The Fix, the critically acclaimed follow up to Last of a Dying Breed. In 2007 he released Made which overall recieved very positive reviews.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hand of the Dead Body" by Scarface explore the rapper's perception of being targeted by the government for his gangsta rap lyrics. Scarface was ahead of his time when he made this song, ironically this song is still relevant today. His first verse went over alot of people’s heads. He deserves his recognition for all he brought to Rap game. Devin The Dude chorus was also the highlight of this song. He really made this song. Growing up in the 70's-90's and during this era of music made me realize today as a 50 year old man, that these artists spoke the truth. Back then we'd hear tracks like this and feel the beat and bobbing our heads thinking we are G'd out hearing Scarface spit some insane lyrics. Until Cube came in and spoke of Khalid Muhammed only now I am researching about that brother. In reality these hommies told some deep stories of the realities of life. I swear when I hear this track now I shed a tear because 25 years later seeing the hate in this world, can make a grown man cry. For real. Long live East/West Cali Hip Hop.

The Hate perpetuated by one race to another and by ourselves as human beings still continues.. My son was listening to a song the other day that made me sooo damn mad! I lost brain cells, my IQ was lowered & my self control immediately disappeared! The sonsg had a decent beat, but the CLOWN (rapper) only made sounds & gibberish babble throughout the 3-4 mins that almost earned my dumb ass son an ass whooping! This child is mocking the same noises, jumping up & down while those BIG ASS TEETH were exposed because he was smiling sooo damn hard!
