Recording as Akshen, he began his career recording solo for Rap-A-Lot Records, a local label in Houston, Texas. In the late 1980s, he joined the Geto Boys as they were forming and released We Can't Be Stopped, a highly successful LP that garnered the Geto Boys a large fanbase, in spite of their ultra-violent lyrics keeping them far from radio and MTV. Akshen changed his name to Scarface (he even changed his flow from a rapid-fire Kool G Rap-like delivery to normal flow, this time with a darker tone), after the film Scarface, saying he felt that the main character of the movie was just like him in many ways. Scarface soon released his debut solo album, Mr. Scarface Is Back. The album was a success, and Scarface's popularity soon overshadowed the other Geto Boys.
Scarface left the group and released a series of solo albums that kept him in the public view in spite of decreasing sales. He turned this around with 2000's Last of a Dying Breed, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sales, and earned him Lyricist of the Year at the Source Awards. In 2002 he released The Fix, the critically acclaimed follow up to Last of a Dying Breed. In 2007 he released Made which overall recieved very positive reviews.

Scarface Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
I wish they can see they need Mary
In a great day and I'm on it
Coming up out ya
And every now and then I can't help but to think about ya
Hatin' that we ended like this, but I had ya beefin'
More now then I ever did, put in my heart for ya
Starin' at my eyes they ain't shot, wide open
Gotta love forming in my life, for another day
And I thank you for some other doing, just let em' pray
(Scarface whispering)
Just the only thing, I need Mary
Ssh!, I just need Mary
Had me thinkin'
She was the only I'd ever needed
Stick in ground, runnin' round, like oh..never need her
I remember seeing cancer sticks, and smellin' inscents
The intimate, and couch, hoping it's soak sex
And niggas so thick, I had to call her up the same night
Dang, they said the number still is the same
Wouldn't let my friends kill her
Take ya penitentiary chances to be with her, go deep with her
chief with her, sprung on the number lawn braud
Once she get you hot in her clutches, you can't run
In the dark, hearing footsteps, and you can't sleep
You find yourself so in love with this bitch, that you can't eat
Paranoia, that's a feeling so scarce(so scarce)
This bitch almost made me need Mary
I'm the first one to tell you I need Mary
Shit, I need Mary
Mary, been home sick, I gotta see her
And when I finally hit you this time, I'd never leave ya
Took ya love for granite, I was blind
And I'm hoping you can accept my apology, for
the times
The song "Mary II" by Scarface is a mesmerizing and intimate composition that embodies the rapper's deep longing for a woman named Mary. The opening lines of the song, "I don't really remember, feelin' like this, I wish they can see they need Mary" reveal how strongly Scarface feels about Mary. He seems to suggest that people who are feeling lost, lonely or empty would greatly benefit from Mary's presence.
The song goes on to explore the intricacies of their relationship, which has ended. Scarface expresses his regrets and admits that he "had ya beefin'" which possibly suggests that he may have played a role in their break-up. He then goes on to confess that he needs Mary "more now than he ever did" and that "gotta love forming in my life, for another day". These lyrics convey a sense of longing and loss, as if Scarface feels that Mary was the one who could bring light to his life.
As the song continues, Scarface dives deep into his memories of Mary. He remembers seeing her smoking cigarettes and smelling incense, the intimate moments they shared on the couch, and how she had him so devoted to her that he was willing to take penitentiary chances just to be with her. Overall, "Mary II" is a passionate and introspective work that captures the essence of a complex relationship that has left a deep impact on Scarface.
