They released an EP After Dark (2003), and two studio albums The City Sleeps in Flames (2005) and Scary Kids Scaring Kids (2007) with the late member and lead vocalist Tyson Stevens. The band disbanded following a farewell tour in 2010.
Vocalist Tyson Stevens was found dead from a suspected heroin overdose on the morning of October 20, 2014 at the age of 29. On September 29, 2019, Scary Kids Scaring Kids released a song titled "Loved Forever" to honour what would have been a wish of Stevens's 34th birthday. The song was written by rhythm guitarist Chad Crawford and produced by Hiram Hernandez.
On November 18, 2019, members Crawford, Afkary and Costa announced that Scary Kids Scaring Kids would be reuniting for one more time for the 15 year anniversary tour of The City Sleeps in Flames release alongside touring members featuring ex-Saosin and Dead American frontman Cove Reber on vocals, Don Vedda on lead guitar and Jordan Flower on bass.
The band released a new album, "Out For Light" May 27, 2022, featuring different lead vocalists on each track, including Lil Lotus, Mod Sun, Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath, among others.
The band – which originally was composed of Tyson Stevens on bass guitar and lead vocals (later to be strictly the vocalist/song writer), guitarists Chad Crawford, DJ Wilson (later to switch to bass) and Steve Kirby, Pouyan Afkary on keyboards, and drummer Peter Costa – recorded their self-financed debut EP, After Dark, while they were still in high school.
Their debut album, The City Sleeps in Flames, was released on Immortal Records in 2005.
A self-titled second album was released on 28th November 2007.

Let me out
I am suffocating
I can't live without this all behind me
Is this almost over now
The luck is like my darkest hour
Where you will find me
From the truth
You left me at the alter
My heart in my hand
I am tired and broken
Haunted by memories of
The life you've stolen
I am tired and broken
You left me at the alter
My heart in my hand
In my hand
Let me up
Let me out
My lips are trembling
And I cannot make a sound
My love betrays me
Is this almost over now?
The walls caved in
The roof fell down
And I am finally
Tired of the lying
And the cloud
That follows you
You left me at the alter
My heart in my hand
I am tired and broken
Haunted by memories of
The life you've stolen
I am tired and broken
You left me at the alter
My heart in my hand
In my hand
And now my only hope is to take
Back what you've stolen
(my heart will go on)
And now my only hope is to take
Back what you've stolen
(my heart will go on without you)
You left me at the alter
My heart in my hand
I am tired and broken
Haunted by memories of
The life you've stolen
(you left me in the end)
Haunted by memories of
The life you've stolen
(you left me in the end)
You've stolen
(you left me in the end)
You've stolen
(you left me in the end)
You've stolen
(I won't forget)
The lyrics to "My Darkest Hour" by Scary Kids Scaring Kids paint a picture of someone who has gone through a painful heartbreak and is struggling to move on. The repeated plea "let me up, let me out" creates an image of someone who is trapped and suffocating in their own emotions. The songwriter describes their pain as their darkest hour, where they feel paralyzed and dying from the truth. The line "you left me at the altar, my heart in my hand" highlights the utter devastation of being abandoned by someone who you thought loved you.
The verses go on to describe the haunting memories of the relationship and the life that was stolen from the songwriter. They feel tired and broken, unable to move on from what has happened. The repeated refrain "you left me at the altar, my heart in my hand" drives home the feeling of betrayal and heartbreak that the songwriter is experiencing. However, towards the end of the song, there is a glimmer of hope. The line "my only hope is to take back what you've stolen" shows that the songwriter is starting to regain their strength and take control of their emotions.
Overall, "My Darkest Hour" is an emotional and powerful song about betrayal, heartbreak, and the healing process that comes after.
