In October 2010, Claudia Deheza left SVIIB for personal reasons and the band continued as a duo. In 29 December 2013, Curtis (aged 35) died of cancer. School of Seven Bells is named after a mythical South American pickpocket training academy.
The Deheza sisters are former members of On!Air!Library! and Curtis was a former member of Secret Machines and Tripping Daisy. Curtis and the Deheza sisters met when both were opening on an Interpol tour. The three decided to end their commitments to their old bands, move in to a shared space, and create a home recording studio together.
The single "My Cabal" was released in May 2007 on the UK label Sonic Cathedral. A 12"/digital EP, Face to Face on High Places, was released in September 2007 on Table of the Elements. The band toured with Blonde Redhead in September of 2007 and with Prefuse 73 in November of 2007.
School of Seven Bells' debut album, Alpinisms, was released by Ghostly International in the U.S. on 28 October 2008.
Their second studio album, Disconnect From Desire, was released on 13 July 2010. Three singles were released from this album: "Heart Is Strange," "Windstorm," and "I L U."
On 28 February 2012, the band issued their third album, Ghostory. The singles "The Night," "Lafaye," and "Scavenger" helped to promote the album. On 13 November 2012, School of Seven Bells released the EP Put Your Sad Down.
On 29 December 2013, Benjamin Curtis died in New York City. He had been diagnosed with T-Cell lymphoma earlier in the year.
In October 2015, Alejandra Deheza announced that the band's fourth and final album, SVIIB, would be released in February 2016. In November, the band released the first single from the album, "Open Your Eyes."

Half Asleep
School of Seven Bells Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Listening bored, half sleep
I won't say anything
That's worth a thing to me
One day, suddenly, time
Took a turn that once felt so brief
I blinked to see polite ghosts fading quickly
Train of thoughts slowly can become
An addiction to the slumber
Of disconnection and the resonance
Of memory that no longer has a shape
But keeps you numb through
The hours till gone is another day
Be aware, my darling
These things I say I mean
Are just traces of something
I long to feel again
I see our time expand
In the air almost forcibly,
Spreading thinner till it dissolves completely
The lyrics to School of Seven Bells' song "Half Asleep" describe the feeling of being trapped in a state of apathy and disconnection from the world around you. The singer confesses that they often spend entire days listening to music and drifting in and out of sleep, feeling unable to connect with anything of substance. The repetition of this unfulfilling routine has left them feeling numb and disconnected. However, the lyrics also suggest that there is a glimmer of hope in the form of a sudden shift in perspective. The singer describes a moment where time seems to slow down, allowing them to glimpse the beauty of the world around them in a way they never have before. This moment is fleeting, but it gives them a sense of longing for something deeper and more meaningful.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of memory and how it can shape our perception of the world. The line, "Of memory that no longer has a shape but keeps you numb through the hours till gone is another day," suggests that our past experiences can sometimes trap us in a cycle of disconnection and apathy. However, the singer also offers a warning to "be aware" and not let these feelings consume us completely.

I see our time expand
I visualize our moments enlarging
In the air almost forcibly,
Almost aggressively existing in the atmosphere
Spreading thinner till it dissolves completely
Diluting so gradually until it completely vanishes

This is their most recognized track and it’s barely relevant in YouTube views. But that’s okay. Those of us who have recognized this greatness are the only ones who were meant to feel the way this makes us feel.

For me it’s a tie between Conjur and this. These are both sublime.

This remains my life's favourite song. I doubt any track will every replace it. It is as perfect today as when I first heard it. Just sublime.

This, in my opinion, is the most representative, powerful and absorbing track of their entire music career. And the lyrics - gosh.
