In October 2010, Claudia Deheza left SVIIB for personal reasons and the band continued as a duo. In 29 December 2013, Curtis (aged 35) died of cancer. School of Seven Bells is named after a mythical South American pickpocket training academy.
The Deheza sisters are former members of On!Air!Library! and Curtis was a former member of Secret Machines and Tripping Daisy. Curtis and the Deheza sisters met when both were opening on an Interpol tour. The three decided to end their commitments to their old bands, move in to a shared space, and create a home recording studio together.
The single "My Cabal" was released in May 2007 on the UK label Sonic Cathedral. A 12"/digital EP, Face to Face on High Places, was released in September 2007 on Table of the Elements. The band toured with Blonde Redhead in September of 2007 and with Prefuse 73 in November of 2007.
School of Seven Bells' debut album, Alpinisms, was released by Ghostly International in the U.S. on 28 October 2008.
Their second studio album, Disconnect From Desire, was released on 13 July 2010. Three singles were released from this album: "Heart Is Strange," "Windstorm," and "I L U."
On 28 February 2012, the band issued their third album, Ghostory. The singles "The Night," "Lafaye," and "Scavenger" helped to promote the album. On 13 November 2012, School of Seven Bells released the EP Put Your Sad Down.
On 29 December 2013, Benjamin Curtis died in New York City. He had been diagnosed with T-Cell lymphoma earlier in the year.
In October 2015, Alejandra Deheza announced that the band's fourth and final album, SVIIB, would be released in February 2016. In November, the band released the first single from the album, "Open Your Eyes."

The Wait
School of Seven Bells Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The imposed rhythms of the passing time
Urgency solely defined by
Degrees of dissatisfaction in our minds
When's the wait a cradle in which you're lulled from time to time
Soundly spun into an insensate lie
Baby just give me some time to find it again
My heart's lost touch with the world around me
I need that love back so I can try to begin again
When's the wait a cradle in which you're lulled from time to time
Soundly spun into an insensate lie
From where we stand, baby, things don't have to look so different
And lately I believe the truth can withstand any change in point of view
When's the distance an opiate net woven with the lifelines
Of those tiptoeing through your life
When's the wait a cradle in which you're lulled from time to time
Soundly spun into an insensate lie
The Wait by School of Seven Bells contains lyrics that explore the hypnotic influence of imposed rhythms and the dissatisfaction that arises from it. The first two lines describe how we become immersed in the rhythms of time, which are imposed upon us by society or our personal expectations. The urgency we feel is dictated by how dissatisfied we are with our current situation. Rather than living in the moment, we become obsessed with the past or future, leading us to an insensate lie. The song suggests that we have the power to detach ourselves from the rhythms of time and see the world with a fresh perspective.
The chorus highlights the urgency of needing to find love again, as the singer's heart has lost touch with the world around them. They need to begin again, but in order to do so, they require the love and light that has faded away. The second verse emphasizes that the distance we create between ourselves and others is like an opiate net that weaves around the lifelines of those closest to us. The wait becomes a cradle that lulls us into a false sense of security, spinning us further into an insensate lie.
Overall, the song speaks to our collective need for love and connection, and how we can get lost in our own worlds, becoming insulated from those around us. However, the lyrics suggest that we can break free from these imposed rhythms and see the truth in a different light. We can break the cycle of dissatisfaction and find a new way forward.
