From Where I'm Standing
Schuyler Fisk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

From where I'm standing
You're the quiet side of the road
You're looking so lonely
And I can't stop looking at you
Your head is hanging
Trying to beat those goodbye blues
I bet you'll be fine
I bet you'll be fine

I guess it's not the way
You always planned it
Looks like you're heading for a
Crash landing
That's just the way it looks
From where I'm standing
From where I'm standing

from where I'm standing
I think I caught your eye
Are you looking at me
Cause I swear I saw you smile
And I'm coming over
Gonna take things off your mind
And I bet you'll be fine
And I bet you'll be fine

I guess it's not the way
You always planned it
Looks like you're heading for a
Crash landing
That's just the way it looks
From where I'm standing

from where I'm standing
Let it fall
Let it come down
Let it crash around you
Around you

I guess it's not the way
You always planned it
Looks like you're heading for a
Crash landing
That's just the way it looks
From where I'm standing
That's just the way it looks
From where I'm standing
From where I'm standing
I might make you mine

I might make you mine
From where I'm standing

Overall Meaning

The song “From Where I’m Standing” by Schuyler Fisk talks about her observation of someone who is feeling down and lonely. From her perspective, this person is like the quiet side of the road, who is trying to beat the blues of goodbye. She sees this person as possibly heading towards a crash landing based on how they appear to her. However, she also sees an opportunity to help this person and approaches them. She believes that she can help take their mind off of their troubles and that they will ultimately be fine.

This song is full of emotion and empathy, as Schuyler Fisk tries to connect with this person in need of help. She is encouraging them to let it all out and let it fall down because she believes that letting yourself feel everything is better than struggling to keep everything together. She sees the vulnerability in this person and empathizes with them even though she may not know what the exact cause of their distress is.

Overall, “From Where I’m Standing” is a heartfelt song that encourages people to reach out to others who may be struggling, and reminds us that it is always better to face our problems and feelings head-on instead of trying to keep them hidden.

It's weird sometimes the simplest lyrics can be so deep. Love her voice, love the song

2023 and it still moves me. Love this scene shot in a real place in a small town lots of unpaid extras. The sweet look on their faces is priceless. Schuyler wrote a touching song and makes the magic happen. I love the movie in this is my favorite scene.

Got into Schuyler's music in my indie phase. Still love what she ended up making. This song in particular came up on the radio at work. Haven't heard it since it was a profile song on my MySpace page. Good times.

I saw this movie "I'm Reed Fish"on DVD today This Indie Film was in very limited release, which is a true shame.. What a good movie, more people should see it. So many fine performances. This scene is a definite highlight. Love this song.

Watching her do this live is way better than the album version. I adore her.
