The song "Laura" by Scissor Sisters is a plea for forgiveness and acceptance from people the singer, Jake Shears, cares about. In the first verse, he addresses Laura and asks for time so that he can prove to himself that he can be the man he knows he is. He then asks her to tell Cincinnati that he needs love but not to give it to him just yet. The repeated use of "Sh'mon" in the chorus, which is derived from Michael Jackson's "Bad," expresses a similar sentiment as the rest of the lyrics - the singer wants the person to show him their love and affection.
As the song continues, Shears addresses Freida and asks for a chance to prove himself in his band. He then asks her to tell Babydaddy (a member of the Scissor Sisters) that he needs his love but not to give it to him just yet. The second chorus continues with the use of "Sh'mon" and the request for love and affection.
The song ends with Shears expressing frustration and a desire to move on from a situation where he feels underappreciated. He says that "This'll be the last time" he ever does the person's hair and that he thought they didn't care about him but now realizes he needs to live on his own.
