Goes to show well knit the story is. Even though Majima and kiryu don’t meet until the end, their fates and character arcs are closely intertwined. While 0 has a dense plot like many other yakuza games such as 4 and 5, it’s these close, logical connections that make it coherent, fucking awesome, and a tier above the others.

I love how most of the other boss tracks are a badass face-kicking rock, but this one... this one is just pure, menacing tension. The difference between the visceral fist fights with the other yakuza bosses, and the survive-for-your-dear-life against the most lethal hitman in all of Asia.

@Debil Man There's no murder in Yakuza, or, at least not commited by the main characters. There's a difference between shooting a person out of a helicopter during a car chase vs killing a person lying on the ground, who can no longer fight back.

I firmly believe Kiryu killed those guys during the car chase in 0 and Kiwami, some of those Jingweon guys in the highway chase in Kiwami 2, and those guys in the helicopter during the Millenium Tower Raid in 6.

Kiryu killed all of those guys, but he's not a murderer, because in those situations, there wasn't any other choice.

Majima, tho? There wasn't much evidence to prove that he's actually killed anyone, murder or not, so I like to think he's straight up never killed anyone yet, lmao.

Kazama was imprisoned. The Shimano family then approached the man that was eradicated from the map to take care of a Hit. They knew that Majima was in anguish and would do everything to feel alive again after being caged in Sotenbori for years.

If Kiryu fought Lao Gui, there is a small chance that Lao Gui would get the advantage in a battle. That is because Lao Gui doesn't fight FAIR but Kiryu does.

With Majima however, Lao Gui was done for, fucked. Majima doesn't screw around, he's using everything available to him to shred his enemies to pieces, unlike Kiryu. This is evident in Majimas fighting Styles and his heat actions. Fingers between the eyes, knives to the chests, kicking nuts etc. Lao Gui got the 2nd worst match up. First one would be Kazama himself.

Looking back at it, he was definitely one of my favorite bosses in the entire game, next to Kuze.
I beat him in one go my first time, but with that said, I haven’t felt so intimidated and hyped in a boss fight in so long. His battle theme just sealed the deal even more. It’s too badass for words. 🔥

it's kinda funny to me. Majima was supposed to assassinate someone, so he was basically an up and coming assassin. His final fight in Yakuza 0 ended up with him fighting a master hitman.

@PUNISHED "Nero" Sparda I agree we should've gotten at least one mission fighting alongside Nishitani, like raiding the Consortium with him instead of Sagawa. Later, Majima and Nishitani travel to Kamurocho to get Makoto, are attacked by Shibusawa's men, and then Nishitani dies by multiple gunshots. It would've been more impactful for him to die like that.

@Bill Cipher not really Majima even said he was holding back on Saejima and a majority of his opponents. Saejima even says that "he was stronger when he had two eyes." Meaning that back then Majima didn't hold back at all which is scary to think about.

Dunno if anyone talked about this though, yet thematically and even in name Lao Gui vs Majima is demon vs demon. Lao Gui translated in this context means "Master Demon"...and Majima was discovering himself throughout yakuza 0, he overthrew the master demon and became the master after he defeated Lao Gui. Really cool that you have dragon vs dragon where Kiryu beats Shibusawa and becomes the dragon of Dojima, and then Majima beating Lao Gui to become the demon.

Lao Gui is fast and confusing in all of his phases, so you'll have a hard time hitting him. He carries wolverine claws during the first phase, so switch to Slugger so you can block them. Keep in mind, you cannot grab in Slugger style. During the second phase, he switches to a sword and gun. The Sword is still blockable, but the gun isn't unless you use a large weapon, and he likes to open up his combos with the gun. During the final phase, he drops the sword and gun, choosing to go bare-handed. Use any style you want to put this assassin out of business!

The most menacing final boss I have fought, sure I fought god in P5 yet Lao Gui's design... He is a literally demon, his name translates to Old Ghost. He may even be more menacing in the Chinese version. Sam Lee gives Lao Gui a plain look yet.. It makes sense, the most dangerous people usually blend into the background.

1:56 when shit is about to go down, this part brings the tension and survival to the next part, when you realize you are fighting against a person who wants to end your life merciless, with no stain on their soul. Thats what Lao Gui truly is, pure evil and after the fight when Majima makes him pay for all he has done, Sera stopped Majima, If he didn't intervene then Majima would kill both Lao and Dojima with no effort.

Lao gui was to be the first time i hated an antagonist the very second you meet him. His whole appearance put me on edge about him, and that was before any of the stuff he did. That feeling of unease turned to fury after he shot makoto.
Even during the final majima fight, when he had not only a pistol, but numerous spikes and a freaking blade, i still wanted to kick his ass.
After the fight, i know that it would be bad for majima to kill both lao and kume for makoto’s sake, but i couldn’t help be feel a little satisfied when majima was kneeing lao in the face. Even after that fight, he still had it coming.

After all the shit he put both Kiryu and Majima through during the course of the story, let me tell you, it felt so damn good to finally beat the absolute shit out of this monster. When I first saw Lao Gui, yes he was hella intimidating, but the first thing I thought of was that one quote from Predator: "You are one ugly motherfucker..."

Probably not in zero to be 100% honest. Prime Kiryu would stomp him though. Dragon of Dojima Kiryu to be exact. Not even Majima can fuck with that beast
